Need better and bigger brakes.

Part of being quick on the Ring is to be easy on the brakes. The more you focus on the perfect line, the less you will need your brakes. Imagine you are doing a 24h race, how far are you going to get if you can cook your brakes in one lap?

The armco I hit didn't even put paint on it, much less put a dent in it.

Gotta love GM and their love of plastic exteriors!

Brakes would be a must before I attempted any road race. I talk about doing it all the time but just have not worked up the nerve to actually do it.

Spade, when you say brakes you just mean fluid, pads, and rotors right? It will probably take a few visits before you pop under 10 mins , depends on the learning curve before you need serious upgrades to the brakes. Like mention earlier its all about being smooth and having a good memory for the Nordschleife.

I have absolutely no problems with my brakes (especially with the cooling ducts) on the Nordschleife. Maybe that also has to do with my driving style with not a lot of and smooth braking. What is killing them real quick is Hockenheim!

When I talk about brakes I am actually talking about getting a bigger kit. I have plenty enough power to go fast I just need something to slow me down as well. Other than a wall that is. :?

complain if you will, but my composite (plastic) exterior did very well in my encounter with the wall. The car just bounced off with a few scratches, no damage to the 'glass

Must've been special Corvette plastic then. When I hit (not hard at all) the guard rail some years ago, my front fender cracked.

If you don't get heat fade then bigger brakes just slow down your acceleration from added rotational mass just like bigger wheels. and from what I understand alot of the brake fade can be taking care of with the stuff roy mentioned plus maybe some cooling ducts?

I don't want to try to convince you not to get bigger brakes cause sometimes it is needed and even if it isn't completely needed it might add alittle peace of mind.

and me personally I would probably do bigger brakes when I was upgrading the lines and fluid and all the crap if I had the money.

Bigger is always better right? :) But really though I think I am just going to buy a nice set of pads and rotors. For the driving I do 90% of the time that should be fine just for me. I changed the lines out a few years back to steel braided ones.

258mm is not enough surface to have on the Ring I think. Maybe if I had the RS front brakes (300mm?)things would be a little better. I know that on Hockenheim they are way too small as I smoked them on the 3rd lap. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. One piston calipers and rear drum brakes just don't cut it on the track.

That's a bit slow for the 'Ring....
Of course Roy takes even longer on his bicycle!
