has anybody messed around with the light system on his 4th gen Camaro? I'm into adding a high beam flash function, hopefully I'll get it fixed soon - started a how-to already, anybody care to comment? http://uscco.insider.org/pics/garry/light/project.html

You should be able to use the flash to pass mechanism from the fleetwood Cadillac. I had thought about it but the 4 to 6 hours of work wasnt to inviting.

Two problems there - one getting a hold of the parts from a Fleetwood, and second tearing up the steering column doesn't sound very inviting ... from what I've seen in the Haynes, it takes a couple non-standard tools to get to the blinker switch and replace it. No thanks. This is more or less the first thing I actually do to a car myself (apart from adding a CD changer to my Renault two or three years back), so I'm gonna take it slow ... Tnx anyway for the hint ...

Quote: Keep us updated . I will probably follow i n your tracks if it looks pretty sano. Sure will ... with the weather clearing up here again today, I did the next two steps - first, checking whether that one plug on the steering column did what I expected it to do (it did), and also trying to find switched +12V and ground somewhere ... someone pointed me to the center console - I don't know what that plug is for (I got three in all - one for the fog headlights, one for the fog taillights, and one other ... anybody have an idea before I tear it up? ) - this extra plug does indeed seem to have both switched power and ground ... so I'm more or less ready to roll ... (got the car half torn up in the garage now ) Next steps will be measuring two cables to go from the center console to the steering column plus some, prepare the relays I have (do some pre-cabling as far as possible), and then all that's left is cutting the one cable and hooking up the new ones ... guess I should have the project finished by the weekend ... I'm keeping the how-to up to date while I go ... next update just came online ...

Quote: Garry How is the wiring going? Gotta find a better place to get the +12V switched from - the plug I found in the center console has too thin'a wires to do anything with - I guess the Amps for the headlights would probably burn them ... I'll check the main light switch and see if I can maybe use the incoming power there ... weather kept me from working on it a bit ... you might know the size of my garage from the pics on my Camaro homepage, so I can only work with it in the open ... anyway, still hoping for some nice weather over the Pentecost weekend, and definitely expecting it to be finished by the 16th ...

Hm ... tried to put the stuff in - took a look at the relays I got - wrong type ... They only switch on Delay again ... Oh well - at least got the car washed and Z1&Z5'ed once, hoping for another coat of Z2 this afternoon if the weather stays stable (some rain drops for noon ... window and cloudy now ...)

Performin' Norman has his own insurrance company, so that explains the 'living large' lifestyle.
That Viper GTS is a gift from his wife btw.
The flash hi beam is quite simple actually.
You will notice that the hibeam lever has about 1 inch of play before it clicks into position, you can use a micrositch to toggle the hi beams on or off by simply using a Bosch fog light relay. I discovered this when i retro fitted my fog lights and had to do my own wiring (just like the power windows, door locks, cruise control, stere, etc.)
You can make that little microswitch on a plastic bracket so that way it will still be flexible and the lever can be locked into position for permanent hi beam.

Oh, ok, so that's how you do it. I don't know about anyone else, but I need slightly more specific instructions than that!!

Please note that i did not do that mod, the above is just theory. I worked enough with GM's wiring to make it work like that But i personally don't think that flash option is worth the work for the 3 times i use that option every year.
Mind you that my car is hardly pushing any cars on the left lane
