Does anyone know if there's any difference between the cigarette lighter and that 12V outlet (except that the latter cannot be used while driving cause of the emergency brake) in our cars?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of buying this to take care of my battery (battery can be charged through the cigarette lighter!):

I believe it will only charge the battery for the first ten minutes , that is when the cabin module shuts off power to everything in the cockpit. I think you will have to use the terminal clamps for the battery option.

Are you sure that the cigarette lighter is turned off? I can't test it now, as the battery and my car are about 30-40m apart from each other (at least) ... But I think I remember that my GPS kept on running longer than 10 minutes, being hooked up to the auxiliary power socket ... I may be mistaken, though ...

Hmm I found this here:

According to this the cig lighter/12V is always on. But I guess I better test this before buying the battery charger above...

lighter is always on...or the 12V power socket....some people leave there radar detectors on in a high radar area and batteries go dead...and I have left my GPS plugged in and some lights before....so yes, its always on. Only differance I see in them is location and depth.
