F-Body Europe :: View topic - autocrossers!!! Get ready

Is there a way to find out, for sure, whether or not it is getting torn up?? That is good news..

Garry, I will be checking out the availablity of the airfields in this area.

I can not wait to beat up on you guys. J/K

What are the rules/needs to do this autocrossing? I want to get into this when I get back to AZ, so I guess it would be good to get some practice in over here while I can. Any specific info would be great. I have a helmet and car:) What is the cost? Any tech inspection stuff I need to know about? Any special items I need? Is it plike parking lot autocross in the states where you just race the clock? Or is this an actual higher speed course?

Helmet is more or less the only requirement - of course, driving a Porsche or a Focus would help in getting the fastest times

If you have your stock suspension, you can have fun, but you will have problems ... as for tech, the Porsche AutoX in Sembach doesn't (at least didn't) have any inspection - as you are not going to go extremely fast, and are on the track alone, the dangers are pretty minimal ...

But he said that the one in Kitzingen is in better shape than the one here and that is would be ok to use, once all the paperwork is done. I got his card and am going to be giving it to Tony this weekend prolly.

Some of these events could be good club meets Date: Event: Location: 7 April Slalom 1 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) 5 May Slalom 2 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) 9 June Slalom 3 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) 7 July Slalom 4 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) r 4 August Slalom 5 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) 1 September Slalom 6 Sembach Air Strip (Flugplatz Sembach) Some of these events could be good club meets especially with that new gasthaus that was built on the field. Plus it has an implicit (possible) good news for us, too: if Porsche is still using Sembach, there may be a chance of getting it for OSL, too ... So, no ~1000+ Euro (!) per Day for Bitburg, but more like 400 per day for Sembach & the complete track ...

I'm working on it ... done dropped the Porsche guy a mail and asked about what his infos were, and going to be calling K-Town tomorrow to find out and possibly reserve the track for half a dozen dates ... wish the new US car meeting dates were out yet ... especially for places like NÃƒÂ¼rnberg or Hockenheim ...

Garry, I will be checking out the availablity of the airfields in this area. There is the Giebelstadt AAF, that is an active runway, but they let the Germans in the area use it for gliders all the time. And there is also an inactive runway over in Kitzingen, on Harvy Bks. I figure there can never be too many places to race... either this season, or next. RT1

Never know what happens to a place ... always good to hace something in reserve to pop out if you run into problems (see the Vielseck/Fulda/Sembach ordeal last year ...) Garry The Sembach field has only about 500 meters of straight runway left . So it would be 1/8 mile for you straight liners . It also makes for a very slow and short auto cross course.

Sound good to me. My suspension is 100% stock. I am only out to have fun and gain a little experiance, so I don't look like a total fool when I try it in the states. Plus the more I learn about how my car handles at the edge the better I will/should be able to drive it:) Thanx for the info.

Garry... Talked to the Flugplatz-Meister guy at the Giebelstadt Army Airfield. He giggled when I asked him about using the runway. He said no way, too much with the Force Protection, and having to move all the choppers and what-not. But he said that the one in Kitzingen is in better shape than the one here and that is would be ok to use, once all the paperwork is done. I got his card and am going to be giving it to Tony this weekend prolly. If you want this guys # just give me a call, or shoot me an e-mail. RT1
