Somehow, many people seem to be deployed or on leave or something, and the rest seem to be sleeping ... ;)
Anyway, are we having a meeting somewhere (restaurant, whatever) for a Christmas party or something? Just wondering, as it's only another 3 Weeks ...

I wish I could! Trying to find a hooptie, only problem is that it has to be an automatic. My wife refuses to learn to drive a stick.

Thanks a bunch for the link!!! We are suppose to look at a 86 BMW Sunday, seller is asking $1,300 so I will need to crawl under it and see if it has any frame left. :) Any problems any of you guys know about that I might want to pay particular attention to with a BMW around that age?

If you can't find anything on one of the Lemon Lots in the Stuttgart area, you might want to make a trip up here to Ramstein some weekend. There are always quite a few cars for sale there.

RTZSS I had an 86 BMW back in 97 for about for years- other than keeping up with maintenence and changing a lot of parts- I never had a problem with it. Loved it.

JUST DON'T FLOOR IT ON THE AUTOBAHN !!!! Those motors are not ment for that and the age makes it more so. And I guarantee you you WILL break something if you abuse/ misuse it. This is the single most reason why many GI's find themselves having problems with a BMW, regardless of age.

BMW's are the perfect vehicle for commuting to work. doing errands, or just laid back casual driving.

But my modified LT-1 puts fire in my blood and makes me howl like a wolf.

I had to let the reliable workhorse BMW go.

two cars, two big fast modified motorcycles- single- no family- (and even a girlfriend's honda civic when she is out of town) to much for me. I kept the LT-1 and the Hayabusa. Gave up the 316 BMW and the RF900R.

I use both year round. If there is a problem that happens during winter I get it fixed so I don't have the problem anymore. I do not place a money limit on maintenence. Needles to say, I really don't have any vehicle problems.

driving a stick in Europe is really not an option for your wife. I hate to say this but if she refuses to learn to drive a stick here in Europe then she does not have the proper state of mind needed to drive a vehicle here in Europe. And she would be a hazard on the roadway. I feel compelled to tell you this to help you, not to critisize.

Sven ,
That is some opinion , although albeit it sounds totally ludricris and asssinnine in nature . That was my opinion. (just a little ribbing)

What are you really saying? All drivers of automatics are hazards.
What facts do you have to support that opinion? Automatic drivers would like to know.

Best regards

I think maybe he was typing a little faster than he was thinking. I think what he basically meant to say was that since most cars in Europe are manual, it would very much behoove her to learn. :)

If your wife learns on a newer car, it will be easy as pie. I tried to learn on a Toyota pickup, when I was in high school, but it had well over 200K miles, so it was a royal PITA.

I learned to drive a stick when I was 5 on a farm traktor and on a harvester in the fields. Growing up on a small farm 30 years ago
kids had to learn to help.
So when I turned 18 I refused to have the mandatory driving lessons
with an automatic, since germans think this is 'girlish', and at that
time I still tried to proof that I am better than the boys.
(today I know it, so no need to proof anymore  )
Then I started to work for the US, and most of the cars are
automatic and at vacation in Florida I learned to use the cruise control. Don't ask me what I got to hear at car dealers in Germany when I
asked for a 'tempomat': in Germany you don't need it!?

Wrong. Since I am getting smarter in my older days,
I love to cruise with automatic and cruis control.
Get better gas milage also. (german gas prices :( :( :( )

JACK Z28 BROKE IT ON DOWN FOR ME.

THANKS JACKZ28.

HOWEVER, IF I PISSED ANYBODY OFF, CONSIDER IT A NORMAL REACTION.

Hm ... just wondering - is anybody volunteering to organize something somewhere (restaurant, or whatever)? I'd do, but I recon my area is the farthest for everybody (except me) to drive ... in case nobody noticed - Christmas is only two weeks down the road ...
