I got word that the AFN will be coming out to cover the event
on Aug 13 - I hope you guys don't let the Beetles doing all the show

BTW the entry fee will be 10 at the gate for that event and back to normal 5 next month.
Because many of them beetles come to show and be part of the event this time, they do not all race (past year only about 30 cars more than normal) but still use the camping site and utilities all weekend; the cost to cover the event is much higher, that is why I have to raise.

In return I will accept $ at a rate 1:1 from all US at gate and registration desk on August 13 + 14, no change though, please have the money right.

How did it go?

pretty good, I think Ben said there were something like 130 drivers. There were 15 cars at the AutoX on Saturday with Val taking 1st place. Then 2Slow showed up on Sunday and matched his time from saturday in the RAIN That guy can drive.

There was one Mustang that took out a fence, not too much damage and I heard that there was a car that went off the end of the drag strip with no brakes.

The rain did mess things up for the 1/4 mile guys, but the AutoX was still going, so I'm sure we got a few extra cars because of it, so it might be good for us if we could get a few more people hooked.

So, what's new about that?

In '02, when the Porsche Club was still doing their AutoX in Sembach, I remember one event where all us non-Porsches were running first, in the dry. When it was time for the Porsches to drive, it started raining. Well, maybe more than just raining.

Anyway, at that event I think Stef and a couple other Porsche guys (what was that one tall guy's name who always drove barefoot?) not only matched, but beat Roy and Val's times (best of the none-Porsches) by something like 20 or 30 seconds!

Well, not saying those guys can't drive, but I am sure having the Porsche had a little to do with the times.

There is no way that a stock S4 is going to beat either Val's or my car with equal drivers. Stef could just out drive us and find some way to cut several seconds out of the course, at the end of the day, he's just that much better than the rest of us. I'm just hoping that he'll be around enough for the rest of this year and next for me to learn a few things from him.

With AutoX, it's a lot more up to the driver how well the car performs than with Quartermile ... heck, anybody can sit down and push the pedal to the metal ... the Beamer ran a 14.5, all I had to do was wait for the green light ... but the real fun is going around the corners

Also, I remember Stef getting into a Corvette in '02 and after two laps, he was within two seconds of his Porsche time ... Roy, whose Corvette was that? I think it was mostly stock at least as far as suspension goes, right?

Yes that was a stock 405HP Z06.
Not trying to swell any heads hear but Stef and Guido are phenominal drivers. Both have German championships between them.

Gary! You are wrong on this one. There is a huge difference in a 14 second street car and a real drag car. It is not just getting in, waiting on the green light and pushing the pedal. Try engaging the line lock, shifting from first to second and then remembering to pull back down into first after you roll out of the box or you will break the input shaft on the tranny when the tires bite. All while counting in your head how long the burnout was. Then line up in the groove, engage the stutter/delay box, and try not to redlight or sleep on the tree. Enter a few high dollar events in the states where the entry fee is $500 or more and you will see it is not that easy. Oh and don't forget what to do when your car breaks the tires loose at the top end of the track. Do you stay in it for the win, pedal, let out and pray you don't over drive it and flip, or grab the shoot? It is hard for people to decide when you have a split second decision to make with $5000 on the line. It takes alot of talent to drive the drag strip.

I wasn't talking about "professional" drag cars, as hardly anybody here will ever drive one down the track ... for a regular street car (cars like e.g. Bruce's Hawk are no regular street cars anymore), a dragrace is relatively easy - get a decent R/T (the hard part), then get decent shift points without missing a shift, and you're through.

Not trying to put anybody down, main thing is you're having fun with whatever you like to do, and that you do it in a safe environment, not like the idiots just last Friday that street-raced in Wiesbaden ...

any chance that was a guy named Todd? He was an Army Capt (now Maj) on the Corvette boards that used to be over here. I've talked to him several times. He mentioned knowing a porsche engineer while here was here once.

Well I think most of you read a little too much into my comment.

The key part of what I wrote was, "I am sure having the Porsche had a LITTLE to do...".

Without a doubt the driver is what is making the car do what it needs to do, but when you do have equal drivers it comes down to the car.

I know you guys are professional drivers so I am positive you can out drive practically anyone on this site regardless of the car.

Just needed to clarify my statement since you guys are quick on bringing out the flame throwers.

He's free to try my car at any of the upcoming events...

As long as he promises to show and that I get at least 20 laps of free time prior to his showing. My biggest hangup is that I don't have his experience...nor the time to learn it. He shows at the next event and we a free head to head showing.
