Anybody who missed this - you missed some serious fun ...

To start off with, and all the way through, the place had some problem with organization ... hardly any signs up ... anybody who doesn't know the place probably had a hard time finding the right place ... tech inspection though was quick, efficient and pretty detailed ... sure was a good idea to do a brake check ... :)

The whole thing was set up at the former Bitburg US airfield. The round course was a 3km course, with a couple of cones to slow people down some. By the time I did my first run there, though, many of the cones were already thrown over, making it hard to recognise the intended course... even for the actual timed runs, they didn't set the cones up again ...

Many people did quite a few test runs there ... hard on the brakes ... sure was fun taking the car to the limit and a bit beyound, knowing there was usually some space to slide to without the danger of damaging the car ...

The actual event took 3 cars per run, in 15sec intervals, for a 3-lap run, with a goal of running 1'20 per round ...

After that, it was time for the quarter mile runs ... only got two runs per car, with the best of the two being counted ... no christmas tree, no in-between timing, no trap speed ... oh well ... and they sure messed up with the timing - they actually had me running a 14.00something ... yeah, sure, 14.0 with a stock V6 3.8l ... anytime ... I tried to tell them they were off, but they insisted it was right ... I guess that time beat most of the other FBE members there ... (I think they mixed up the two lanes ... the car I ran against on the second - faster - run was about 3sec or more ahead of me ...)

After the quarter mile event, the set up the slalom course - no AutoX type course, but a plain slalom with hardly any corners, about 10 or 12 gates, 180 curve in the back and back through ... made mainly for quick acceleration ... anyway, it seemed to be pretty hard, as some of the vettes and a Viper missed one or more gates ... (makes you wonder if you want to dare meeting them people on the road :))

It was time for fun once the slalom was finished - after some talking, FBE got the quarter mile track opened again, without timing, only for fun as heads-up races. We got some 4 or 5 runs in for all the 10-12 cars ...

None of the FBE members got any trophies, but I guess all the guys had the same fun as I did ...

I will second that it was a blast . I wish a few more people could have made this event from the club . It was a pretty good bang for the buck ratio out there . Now I know what imust doto build a triple threat car. Later

come on will ya, I wanna know who ran against who, and what happened!!!

And I'm with ya Roy, triple threat is the way to go. Except in my case, street terror, 11's in the 1/4 and auto x if someone else drives it :).

And yes Garry, the clocks were off, but hey you have the 2nd gen waiting to get muscled!!!

...if it aint broke, dont fix it, but if its fixin to break, break it.

Sounds like you guys had a blast. Wish I could have made it.
As my TDY was canceled, they nailed me for SDNCO on Sunday.
Next year I will put in a pass.

I also want to know what happened on the 1/4mi. Did Sweeney lose that 100 bucks or what?

Hm ... apart from the obvious losses against things like 'vette, the blown pickup (look for the pics of the blue pickup with huge intake ... next pic on the list is the interior of it) I at least beat the red-brown RS ... I forget the name ... still wondering how many HP he has, but it's a V8 ... made my day ... still curious how I placed on the slalom ... hope they post the results soon ...

What I forgot ...

On the extra 1/4 runs, what was kinda funny was that first, there were only the couple F-Bodies (read: all of the FBE members more or less :)) pulling up for more runs - by the third run or so, we got - what? A vette and something else to come up, too ... Tony did us the honors and played the starter after the first run ... Tnx again, Tony!

I still have my $100.00 and I had a blast. Who raced the burgundy vette? It was sniffing the happy gas for your information. The vipers were afraid of George's car, notice they did not come out and play. Someone from FBE bagged the red vette and put him on the sidelines, Good job!!! Dave&Jr thanks for the hospitality. Tony had a blast also. I agree The timeing was flat wrong. I have a video with me and george running and ran it against my stop watch I came up with 13.00 with passenger. Which is about right. Hey what did the chicks say? I bet they got moist during the race!! I also wore out a 1st gen 454 pretty bad he asked me what I did to my car. I also beat a wannabe race monza he got me on the hole shot and I ran him down passing him just before the quarter. It was a blast, I am not saying anything about racing FBE members if they want you to know they can post it. George you should put the can out front of your car 1DM for a look and I am sure you would get alot of marks.

A good time indeed. It was no problem to put you guys up for the night. Got a little too much sun. Kinda pink on the nogin. Otherwise the car ran good (stupid freakin 3rd gear!). I got a kick out of kicking those cones in the slalom. Those times for drag racing were total BS!! Hole shots are a bitch too. Guess I need practice!!

Sure pick on the guy with the bad clutch!! I don't know what the deal is with that thing. It runs fine now, even if I get on it good. I didn't try the burgundy one. I was kneck and kneck with a maroon one. Only reason he beat me was the hole shot (ooops, to many rpms). I was actually gaining on him. He said happy gas!!

Sounds like you guys had a blast! Not fair! :) Good to hear there was a decent turnout.
Seems max participation is always 6-7 where were the rest of you guys at?

Garry nice pics too. Who was the Yellow Camaro & Maroon camaro?
No one didn't run against the Viper or Mclaren? Or was the Mclaren a Poser I saw the bowtie up front.
Anywho glad everyone returned safe and no damage done to the cars.

Silas,

Thumbs up to the F-body Europe gang. I feel that we more than represented the club. It was a blast to be on the same asphalt as the vipers and cobras. If I was here next year I would go again, but I would hope for more organization.

Road Race course was very cool, however my car needs some serious brake work if I am to try that again. I was in front of that Mclaren look-alike, corvette wanna-be car. He was in my rear all through the turns. I was able to pull on him and avoid the pass on the straights, but I was forced to brake hard therefore smoking the brakes. So I did not do that course again.

1/4 Mile was also fun. The timed portion sucked as they gave us no indication that it was for times and we thought it was like a tuning phase. I had to run Randy both times. It was a tire spinning one for one race. I took 1 randy 1(Left lane rules:)) When we raced for fun I got taken by bruce 2 out of 2. He has a mad launch. I need to tune my launch as I am losing mad power on the line. I got a good run with Dave and even though I missed 2nd 3 or 4 times (did not want to go in the middle of 2nd and 4th) I still was able to take him with the top end charge. The purple-maroon-burgandy vette took me mad out of the hole. I was able to make up about 2 cars and finish on his bumper (He was spraying?)

Slalom was the most fun for me. I had never done anything like that and I would have loved to do it a few more times. I managed to miss all the cones.........

All in all a good time. Oh and Bruce I do not think the vipers were scared of my car, but I do agree I should have charged for looks....... I could have bought everyone a NOS kit by the end of the day.....

:) Is anyone else sunburned?:)

We FBE wanted to race anybody that would come to the line all FBE were present and only a couple brave vettes were up to standing up to us. I counted 2 out of 150 present. The word on the street is that loudmouth exhaust was scaring them away. I asked a couple people to play and they were getting ready to leave, lame excuse if you ask me.

Well if that is the case it was the best $340 I ever spent. I wish everyone that was there would have lined up and ran the 1/4 into the wee hours of the night. I guess like you said they all had some kind of lame excuse.

Your setup sounds pretty scary remember. I was on the sidelines when you were dodging cones. It was music to my ears especialy when you laid into it and you could hear intake and exhaust noises climb. I am trying to be quiet so I can catch a snake cobra or viper breed if you know what I mean. LOL
