It had to happen, to further the sport. I dont know if I'm ready to admit it, but facts is facts. I just watched the vid of the SRT4 running 11 teens at 112mph, and it hit me. This must have been how the 80's crowd reacted to the GNX. Sure the 5.0's have put down the mighty Gran National at every annual shootout, but the reality is that they are close enough in performance to even have a shoot out in the first place.

What do the next few years bring? Today we have stock neons with 240hp, Callaway tuned Mazda's with 200hp, Cosworth tuned focus's with 170hp. Stacked up against a 05 GT with a projected 300hp, the LS1's with 305-340hp it doesnt sound like much, but they gap is narrowing, and it should get interesting.

Sure, I can see the arguements that follow before it becomes a reality. "How much money does it take....?" The truth of the matter is that turbos and FI for that matter are the great equalizer, and the cost of bumping the performance on a boosted car is practically mute compared to bumping a NA car.

It will be fun in the future when a 4cly and a 67 camaro line up at the track and put down similiar times. Competition is good for the breed I guess, and it will make us be on our game. Discounting a car based on make or model in the future will become a dicey game.

I think that is already the case Rob, especially at weekend drags. You line up against some car you think will be a cake walk, and you end up getting skull drug! I don't really care who beats me, but I know that those with money can go really fast, no matter what car they drive! One day hopefully I'll be one of those people!
