Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM had high hopes for its first foray into the world of four-wheeled motoring, but that was before the economy took a dive. Now reports suggest that the company has had to rethink how many of its X-Bow track cars it can sell, but further than that, they've had to stop production as supply outstrips demand.
KTM originally figured on building 500 units of the X-Bow each year, but soon thereafter increased their targets to 1000 per year. So far the factory in Graz, Austria, has built 500. Unfortunately, only 80 of those have reportedly been sold. According to reports the extra stock has forced KTM to stop production altogether while it tries to sell the units it has on hand, with production not expected to resume again until January 2010.

When KTM launched the X-Bow in Geneva in Geneva, I went on the stand and asked how much?
Euro 40 000 they said, but I have to wait a while till they get the thing certified etc....
Since then KTM became greedy.... Euro 75 000 plus is a different league to Euro 40 000. No wonder the customers are staying away.

Seen one this last weekend for the first time ... it looks cool, but nowhere near 70k-cool ... I mean, come on, there's nothing there ...

I guess it's just like lingerie ... the less there is, the more expensive it gets ;)

I see it as low as 65,000 with VAT. That must be the Boxster model. And as high as 98,000 with VAt, which must be the GT3model. Strange they both look the same.

These things can be very very fast but I also think the price is just a bit too high compared to e.g. the Lotus cars.
