Did the 98 Camaro have the same fuel tank as the current? According to Chevrolet, the current tank is 16.8 gal/64l ... just wondering, as I filled up on the way back, and put 55l in it - the needle was down on the red line ... (how come the needle goes UP when you turn off the engine?)

tnx, -gg

My 98 Is 15.5 Ibelieve from what the book said. Ibelieve the 99and newer are 19 gallon.
As for the guage I can only guess that since the power is off it probably just settles somewhere . I really dunno.

I'm still a bit careful - read about a couple people over at the US board that ran out of fuel a couple times, as the fuel tank really _WAS_ emptry when it was showing and the light went on or something ... oh well - guess I just have to get me a little cannister of fuel, put it in the car and see how long I can drive it on empty ... :-)
Anyway, with the needle, while the tank was almost empty, it went up to somewhere between a quarter and a half, but after I filled it up and got home, it went _DOWN_ to about 3 quarter ... funny ...

For them to run out of fuel is plain stupid.
The F-body should NEVER run to long on an nearly empty tank anyway as the fuelpump is cooled by the gasoline. If you run it empty for too long (empty tank and only adding a couple of liters everytime) the pump might overheat and you're in a world of hurt as they are not swapped easily.

I just fill it up and it goes way past full and it stays there for a long time, then it goes to half a tank and then i fill her up again.
You will have to spend the $$$ anyway so why not keep her filled up all the time (at least 1/3 of a tank) ?

I'm not usually somebody to run on the last drops, but up to 5cents/liter difference between a highway filling station and one in a city does make a difference ... also, I've read that on certain F-Bodies, it has been known that the empty-mark really meant empty ... just wanted to know how much to expect out of the tank ...

He is right you will burn up the pump when it sucks air. 99 and newer 16.8 98 and earlier 15.5 is what I read.

this is not fbody only. If you have a intank pump, it is designed to be cooled by fuel. But the biggest danger I can see here is not burning up the pump, it is sucking all that crap out the bottom of the tank.

Try to make a rule that 1/4 means empty. Its no harder to drop a fuel tank in a 4th gen as it is in a 3rd or most other cars. Its just a pain in the ass that you try to avoid.

BTW if you drop the tank, replace it with a fuel cell and outboard pumps;)
