Hi folks,
I need help in re-adjusting the door windows.
I have a 1999 Camaro Z28 with T-Tops.
When I bought the car there was clearly more wind noise on the passenger door side.
In the car wash water was dropping in (at the A-pillar, above the side mirror).
Because the car was still under warrenty (which ran out by end of March), I asked the garage to re-adjust the windows.
Until now I had washed the car by hand only, so I was not sure whether they had done anything, but last Saturday I got proof!
In the car wash a stream of water was coming into the passenger door (A-pillar region), so I felt a bit like getting stuck on the sinking TITANIC!!

I bought Haynes Repair Manual, but there is no help for window adjustment.

Any useful advice you can give?

I was thinking of putting something underneath the rubber seal which goes all around the door frame, so that the rubber seal is pressing harder against the window.

Cheers!
Gunnar

That´s standard. Mine came with the same problem. After numerous attempts (including adjustment, talc and a new seal) it´s still the same. water comes in and there is a LOT of wind noise. Get used to it.

Check your door to make sure it isnt already sagging F bodys are famous for this. I had to replace the hinge and bushings on both of my doors. this helped reduce outside noise alot but mine was not leaking water. Jaz

Thanx for the tip with the door hinges. I will check!

Anybody tried to re-adjust the windows on his own?
With some advice I would try myself. Removing the inside door panels cannot be that tricky, can it?

When the garage managed to worsen the problem, why not reverse the approach to improve??

Cheers!
Gunnar

Here it's the other way round: More wind noise on the driver's side.

I have a little amount of water drop in at the same place (but driver's side) when I drive through a car wash but it's not very much. I had a lot of water come in at the beginning also when it rained... had to do with the t-tops. They replaced some rubber of the t-tops and it's OK now.

Sadly I must recognize, that 50% of all replies are no help but silly comments.
Replies like "Leaking windows come as standard" or (the brake problem I faced) "GM brake discs are just junk"
you could have told me BEFORE buying the Z28!!!
Last year when I first asked for advise whether to buy a Camaro the reply was something like this: "YEAHHH! Great car! Go for it now!"
Still I like the car a lot, but I am curious what comes next!

What do you expect for some 50 Grand DM? A car with 288 hp AND perfect workmanship? I considered buying a shiny new Merceds SLK 320. Sure the thing hat a lot better workmanship. But than you get a measly 240 hp and have to pay roundabout 100 Grand DM. For that money i could have bought a Corvete.
When buying a Camaro you buy the "little" faults, too. Still they make the car even more amiable and i treat mine as a living being.
You would not change your brother if he had one or two little problems - see.

Enjoy the engine and the astonished looks when you pass em at 250 - with a car nobody recognizes.

Rampage - like your comments. Love that HP kicking in.

Really upsets people when I tell them how much I paid and how reasonable the insurance is.

I also love the look on peoples faces who don't know what the car is and often you seen them mouth "what the f@%$ is it?

he he he

Well, my rides personal probs

Wind Noise (LOADS)
Leaky Window
Rumble from the rear (not the exhaust, the axle/diff)
Below average handling.

Then.... there are aftermarket parts.

Better muffler (helps against all noise - you simply don´t hear it anymore)

Alternative: Monsson Stereo

Intrax springs - better handling

regarding the axle noise - get used to it.

Still would never change - oh btw, Gunnar:

You´ll forget al the trouble when you blow of the next Boxster from the A-bahn.

Serious: Use talcum on the rubber for the windows, helps a little. The problem seem inherent with those Targas.

On Sunday I have to go to India for 10 days for my company, but afterwards I will check door hinges, try talkum and eventually fiddle with the window adjustment.
The Opel Garage has ordered some "Export" brake discs. Although I told them the GM codes for Heavy duty discs they could not deal with it, because they have different spare part numbers. :-bash
I have bought the Camaro, because it has best HP/EUR value and looks stunning. Before I had read about the American approach to quality and did agree: I do not give a sh*t about gap size as Mr. Piech, I do not need wood trim or carbon fibre look on the cockpit, but I want reliability and comfort.
I do not want a perfect car, because then there is nothing more to do. At the moment I am really busy making new Xenon headlights, but it will take a while.
I am happy with the suspension (Geiger springs), after getting to the limit in a drivers training from ADAC.
But the leaking windows I do not want to accept. Maybe a remote control for the central door lock will follow.

Cheers!
Gunnar

The only time I have ever had a problem with water comming in was when the window wasn't all the way up. Wind noise isn't a problem until I bust about 100-110 mph. But the monsoon and that nice 15" sub in the back deal with that. The car is a 97 and I have owned it for three years.
