F-Body Europe

Hi folks,
I have found a test of a '99 Z28 in German Car Magazin "Sportauto", where they complained about very low body rigidity. In fact their were testing a Z28 with T-Tops.
What are your experiences? Any squeaking like an old frigate in heavy sea? Ever heard of cracked windscreens?
Is this a problem with convertibles and T-Tops only?

Than they complained about repeated failure of ABS? Have you faced similar problems?

I have had a loose body experience due to the T-tops and the frame not being a solid frame rather a two piece frame. This can easily be solved using Subframe Connectors. I have had no problems with ABS failure on the car. I did however have a 95 camaro that was prone to the ABS inop light coming on frequently. They told me it was electrical/radio interference to wrap the sensors in foil.. Never had a chance to try it I sold the car... Hope this helps

an F-Body definitely isn't the stiffest car you'll be able to get ... and even less when T-Top or Convertibles are involved ... suspension is close to POS ... anyway, there are enough after-market parts out there, at reasonable prices, to enhance the car ... My car is due for some for sure ... try autocross with a stock convertible F-Body and you know what I mean ...

I had an ABS failure while I was driving on the Nuerburgring last Sunday. Perfect.

I had it checked yesterday and they said they couldn't find any errors and...



...they also said this might happen due to interference stuff or something...

I was told by a GM Mechanic that if you are getting failure and it is determined not to be mechanical i.e. speed sensors or such, you can wrap your abs sensors on each wheel with aluminum foil or something alike. It will stop any interference. I hope this helps..

So far I've not experienced any problems with the brakes, except they dust like a mf....

I've had a 4th Gen F-Body since Feb 1995 and have never heard of a windshield cracking due to body flex.

It's true that they are not very rigid cars due to the subframes especially with T Tops or on a Vert, but like G said, this can be fixed very easily with a set of SFCs. (And I don't mean 2 E-7's either )

I don't put alot of faith in the ABS system. I did some testing in the snow on my 95 and I was quite disappointed with the results. It seemed like about 50% of the time the ABS did not work and the tires would lock up. I attributed it to my headers causing too much heat on the ABS unit, which I had discussed with some other people and we thought it to be the culprit. Perhaps if what G says is the case with the sensors, than we may have been wrong (hmmmm is that possible?). After installing the headers though, my ABS light would stay on about every 1 in 10 times the car was started.

Actually I had heard a romour about cracked windshields when using a 3 point STB. Something to do with too much stress pushing back on the cowl when cornering hard. But as to them just cracking with the frame stock. Nothing. Except when someone gets pissed off and jealous and puts a rock through it.
