Hi,...

I hope that nobody has anything against my very bad english.
I test it... ;-))

I've a 99'Camaro Z28 and I have a pair Problems and
Questions about my car.

At first, since a half year I can hear a noise from the differential or any other thing at the rear side.
If the car drives without load, he's rolling, and I
drives small curves, it was a metallical "knocking" sound.
Under load, I hear no noises, no "knocking".

The Car has 3 Years Guarantee in Germany, also until January
2003. The very bad GM-(OPEL) Repair Workshops in Hamburg
don't find the Failure.. One old GM People there said, that
he Know about this error, but there was no Idea by GM to
remove it at a long time.
I Think the Differential is defect... but the Workshop won't
be change it .

The Second Problem, is a Question...

I am searching for any Styling things for my car.
A VA- 4-barEnd Exhaust/BackCat System (Borla or anything else?)
Then I'am interesting on a Ground effect Kit AND
the car should become smaller springs.. I mean it looks
like a LandRover ;-)

The Problem is, that i don't know, what says the German TUEV!???

I see that the most Members come from Germany...
(warum schreibt hier denn keiner in Deutsch??? zumindest teilweise??;( )?

Any Members have many modifications on his car... all things with TUEV??? Who can Help me, what is allowed, was makes Prolems?? Was is with a new Exhaust System?? Has it more Power? (the US-Modells have more PS than the European)
What is with the Car Guarantee if I make any Modification on my car??

Thanks...

Garry can probably answer your question about the Tuev best, and I don't know about the differential, but I'm sure someone will help you. Tuev sucks, 'cause they don't let you do so much. Email Garry, and ask him. He is German, and has a lot of answers!! ;)

Yep, thats right TUEV regulations really suck... they sometimes won´t even allow you an aftermarket catback...

Oh, and the reason we don't speak German here is that most of us are Americans!! :) Some of us do try at times, though!! :)

The Problem is, that i don't know, what says the German TUEV!???

Good question - I doubt they should have anything against ground effects, may want to watch out when combining them with lowering set ... anyway, the exhaust I see a potential problem ... german TÃœV is pretty restrictive when it comes to noise ... even nice sounding nice as a V8 is producing .. :) I've checked other boards before, and to my knowledge, there is no muffler system that has an ABE, so you will have to have a "Einzelabnahme" - check with TÃœV before getting anything - they should be able to tell you what dB level your car may have ... anyway, I doubt that any system like Borla, Corsa or SLP loudmouth will stay below that level ...

Depending on the exhaust, you may gain some hp, but not too many ...

At least in the states, anything you don't change will still be under waranty ... no telling on how the german Opel dealers handle it ...

TUV yuuuck. The knocking sound is the clutches in the rear diff sliping when you turn. I am asuming you have a limited slip diff? My 98 Z28 did it it was not as loud as you are discribing though but was annoying. As far as mods for Ha Pees do the not so obvious things like cut out the MAF bore the throttle body, underdrive pullies, hypertech power program w/powerstat and maybe a filter with a LS6 intake will get you 40 or so Ha Pees and TUV will have no Idea. The Polezei have this thing about noise.I am sure you could get a stock american exhaust from someone in the club for a little nothing. I also I hear they put the six cylinder exhaust on your car so unchoke it would be 10 more Ha Pees. But you need to talk to Gary he is the TUV expert of the club.

P@ssed off by TÃœV, yes, but expert? NOT ... good thing they will never get to look at the 79 ... :) Guess the trip to Sembach will probably be the last time the car sees open roads ... :) :( If I get the parts I need from Glen or Robin this week, that is ...

What do you mean by that?? Can they not inspect it, or are you just doing something temporary, for the race???

The noise from the rear, like Hawk said is the differential. My '01 does the same damn thing. Drives me up the wall sometimes. I even put the Redline lube and GM additive in it. Still does it.

If the car is not being registered for regular street use, it is not being checked by TÃœV ... last time TÃœV seen it was in '98 I think ... maybe even '96 ... it had red 07 plates since '99 or so ...

Hmm, very interesting! So if you have a car that you use strictly for racing, you don't need any kind of inspection??

Yup - no plate, no hazzle ... :) And if it's halfway streetable, I can alsways use a red plate ... anyway, if it's light enough, I'll use a trailer to pull it with the BMW, that way I don't have to pay the fuel ... :) And at 12mpg, the '79 isn't that conservative at using fuel ... :) (wonder how much I'll be using on the way down next weekend ...)

You could throw a set of stage II heads and small Comp cam 500 lift 114LSA and 220dur@50 and reprogram the computer in that car good for 50-70 Ha Pees. The TUV police would never know!!!

Today I was in Hamburg at the GM-Service.
The Service-Chief (Mr. Eder) has made a Test driving
with this car because the knocking sound.

After it, he want to order a completely new Rear Axle
include a new Diferential... on Guarantee...

I hope this help...

Now that's good news! Hope it solves your problems! But be prepared for a long wait ... took them (Opel at Hersfeld) over 3 months to get some of the parts in for mine ...
