Hello everyone my name is Billy. I'm finally getting to leave POPE AFB NC and go somewhere other then the desert. I have a 01 M6 Blue TA with h/c/lt's/y pipe w/ elec cutout/ stock rear w/ 3.73's. I have heard many different stories on how hard it is to pass inspections there. My car isn't that loud unless the cut out is open because I still have the stock cat back. How anal are they on how wide your tires are? Are 275's the limit, or are they to big? Can you guys chime in and fill me in on everything from car inspections to the local area to the base, etc? What will/should I change? I want to have my car set up to pass as soon as I get there rather then wait to do it there. Seems like things are really expensive there. Thanks guys.. I can't wait to get there!!

Oh also a buddy of mine is also heading that way at the same time with a subi... blue wrx with a few mods. He talks too much trash-I just haven't had the opportunity to run him yet.

Hi & welcome! :)

Cannot comment on the inspection questions, but I'm sure someone else can...

Welcome to the boards and Germany, Billy.

I can hook you up with most of your inspection questions....and yes they are anal.

First, here is what they go off of:

http://rmv.hqusareur.army.mil/190-1/ss190-1.htm

Study it wisely.

Volume or Db of your exhaust is a huge ordeal right now. Hopefully your cutout is hidden because they are a failed inspection according to regs is you have one at all. However, I have not heard of anyone failing for one....yet. I would highly recommend gettting someone to check your Db's while you are still stateside. It is EXTREMELY difficult to get anything for our cars locally. Almost everything most be ordered stateside and takes a couple weeks to get here.

I would think you will be OK with the stock stuff. They are allowing people to pass with a MAXIMUM of 95 Db's at 1/2 redline.

The only thing about tires is they have to be season appropriate and cannot stick out of the wheel wells. They also must have sufficient tread with no damage to the sidewalls.

Make sure your brakse and ALL lights are functioning and you have NO leaks.

The exchange rate is pretty poor now so yes things can be kind of expensive off-base.

Lastly, your side windows and windshield must be free of any tint.

If you have any other questions....you know where to go. This is a great group of people, but the boards can be slow sometimes.

Welcome Billy. Brian is dead on w/ the synopsis. If you have 315's you'll be ok as well FYI. Wish I could meet you but I'm heading back in May and hopefully to Seymour or No Hope Pope to retire.

Good group of guys here and they'll do their best to help out any way possible.

Silas,

First off thanks for the info. I will read up on it as much as I can. So a cutout is considered a leak? It seals perfectly...hmm.. ?? Anal!

Are there any 1/4 tracks close to Spangdahlem?

Question should be more like "Are there any quartermile tracks in Germany". And as for anything permanent, the answer will regretably be "No" ... there is only one track which is a quartermile track once a year.

Anyway, there are several places that do 1/4mi on a more or less regular schedule, the one closest to the Spang being at the Bitburg airfield (~20min from Spangdahlem), once a month from May through October. Check http://1on1-motorsports.de for pictures and details. I don't know if your car can make it in time for the first event in 08, which (preliminary schedule) should be on May 24/25 ... we usually have quite some fun, and if you're also interested in doing not only straight line, but corners too, we usually have AutoX/Road course there, too ...

It would be fun to try the AutoX/Road. I think I would like to watch a few times or read up on it before I try it. Kinda sucks that they only open once a month during that time.

It's a live airfield, and all the team members don't do that for a living ... can't afford doing that every weekend ;) Plus, it's quite a drive for most of 'em (I'm about 200mi away from Bitburg)

As for the AutoX - just come on out and have fun ... :) If you search YouTube for Bitburg and/or 1on1, you'll get several videos taken out there ... :)

e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9k1YPNVusE or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-KJBVGcLJs

Honestly I had not heard anything about this. If I'm not on leave then Yes I'm sure our club will make our way out there. We always have guys down for trips like that. Charolotte is a little over or around 3 hrs for us. Are you going to have your car?

Hey I thought the AF side of the house for Pope was closing? Is this true?

Hey man. I got to spang with my 00 transy last year. They ate me alive. I had pacesetter LT's with TSP true duals. That had to be switched out to an exhaust that went past the rear axle. Your car will not pass the sound with the set up the way it is. Turn off the cutout and stuff steel wool in the pipes. Alot of us did that this past year. You CANNOT have tint on your driver side or passenger window. We tried rolling them down during inspection but still got caught almost every time. Make sure you have all season tires. Other than that good luck. My name is Tyler Blaine. I work in the AGE shop on the flightline. When you get there give me a shout out if you need anything at all. 06565933237 is my home and 452-6761 is my shop DSN.

Well Garry hopefully I will get the oportunity to come out there.

SRZ...Well the AF side of Pope isn't actually "closing"... the reserves are coming in to replace us. We will still have a mission.

Tyler thanks for the info. Well I'm currently on leave and my cutout has quit opening...so I guess I will just have it took off. I still have the stock exhaust so the car isn't really loud, it's just cat less. I think it's really quiet compared to some cars. I do have a/s tires on it right now and I don't have any tint. You can tell that I have headers and a cam but it's not really loud. I need to have the db's checked on it.

You could always take your car to an audio shop and see if they can check the Db of your exhaust now. That can save you a lot of hassle. They are letting us go at 95db right now (subject to change). That is at 1/2 redline and it is averaged.

1/2 redline? like 3.5? Does it need to go to an audio shop or exhaust shop?
