Hello everyone I am moving to Germany next week and thought I would try and meet some fbody fans. I will be bringing my 89 IROC white on black, 350 L98, T56, 98 trans am rear w/ 4.11's. I was stationed in Bamberg a few years ago with 1-6 FA and fell in love with Germany. I am getting out of the army next week and will be living in Erlangen. It took some convincing to my wife but I get to have my IROC over there rather than have it sit at my dads house.

I tried to post some pics of the car, but apparently I need 5 posts to do that so I'll be back to put some up :)

Thanks for the greetings, I just got all my stuff boxed up and shipped so I won't be able to add more posts until I am in Germany. Just 3 more to go.

I really should have sent some in my household goods, but the more my stuff weighed the more I would have to pay so I tried to keep it as minimalistic as possible. I am curious about how registering my car is going to work over there as a civilian, does anyone have any helpful tips on that? How are the inspections with rust? I have a few minor rust spots (northeast car) nothing structurally compromising, but are they pretty strict on stuff like that? Thanks, Kenny.

Will you still be associated with the US military as a civilian employee?

I will be in the reserves over there, and I'll be working as a contractor in a motor pool until I can find a position with cpol. I decided to stay reserves so i don't have to worry about getting called back in.

If you get technical status , then you will be able to register your car in the US System.

Welcome back to Germany. I used to live in Nurnburg back in the day and visit all the surrounding areas. Place hasn't changed much since the mid 80's.

Yeah I was stationed over there about 2 years ago, and did the usual army thing where if you're single over there you'll be married by the time you leave

well after a huge headache of paperwork I was finally able to pick up my car today, it's been siting in Bremerhaven since January, but all it needed was a jump and it drove perfectly, only the shipping company did the obligatory "steal the radio" thing they do so it was about 5 hours with just the exhaust.

She's going to need some work to pass inspection but hopefully nothing to major. Any cruises or anything going on in the near future?

What is that? Do they really "steal" the radio??

just about everyone I know that has shipped there cars internationally have had there stereo stolen. I had one guy tell me they took all his speakers too. They also took my "camaro" flashlight that was in the overhead console, and really messed the wiring for my gauges up so I also watched a temp gauge read 250 the whole way home, luckily the tach and speedo and fuel still worked.

And from what they tell me is there isn't anything I can do because the insurance I had through them only covers total loss, which is of course the only coverage they offer. It might just be a you get what you pay for thing because it was definately the cheapest shippers I found, by a long shot.

Hm ... and your regular car insurance doesn't cover it? Oh well ... I guess as long as all that's gone or broke is the radio, ...

Anyway, nice looking car for it being nearly 20 years old!

thanks Gary, it doesn't look like that right now unfortunately when I left it with my friend to take to the port in Baltimore the drivers side louver blew off so that's gone, plus the stereo, plus the flashlight, and the guage cluster is barely in. So I have a little bit of work to do but the good news is she still runs awesome. I'm going to take her to the craft shop in Bamberg tomorow to go over everything and get it ready for inspection. I'm sure that my insurance will cover it I just haven't told them yet, I'm not sure if I want to make a claim over something as frivilous as a $80 cd player from target, maybe though.
