I personally would not have done that. It is however his car and his right to do that. Did JR have a problem with him passing on the side? If not than no harm done..... To quote Jack, you are crazy......

Yeah George your right , hopefully you will never have to write an award or letter posthumously to parents for something like that and at the same time perform an in the line of duty investigation , so his wife and kids can recieve the benefits that a soldier so carelessly threw away. When you do, you will know what I am talking about. As for everyone else there is a time and a place for everything. If your an NCO please do your duty and perform like one . Keep your soldiers and airmen safe.

Considering I was only doing about 40 MPH or so, it wasn't that bad. I can almost guarantee that most people here don't think twice about doing 100, 110, 120 down the Autobahn when there is other traffic. There was no other traffic. Who is the one being more careless? I was probably going slower than you go round Neurburgring. Which is more dangerous? The ring. You have a bunch of idiots around you. At least we are out with people we know.
You say a time and a place. So the ring is a good place. I don't think I have been there without seeing an accident. I have had to swerve to miss junk in the middle of the track. You have to do the same in the autobahn. So now obviously everything is unsafe and we had better all get rid of our cars and get Honda's. Less HP=safer. Keep believing that.

You know Roy you are right as well. It would be unfortunate to have to write that letter, but it would have to be done. I am sure that Jesse and whoever else has done crazy things on the Autobahn or anywhere else has taken that into consideration before doing what they do. Racing cars on the Autobahn, Racing cars on a track or passing people has its risks it is not for you or I to say which is worse.. Comments relating to responsibilities or morals of an NCO or such is unwarranted. I respect your opinion and keep it as such

We are all just here to have fun, we do not twist anyones arms to do what we do. Have fun, Relax and be yourself.........

This is a touchy one. But I have almost died over here a couple times. About 50 or so in 7 years but not only on the bahn or in a car and not always my fault but little things added up to create a unsafe enviroment. We have all got into some sort of altercation on the bahn. I know I have but we all have our limits and I know mine error on the side of caution is a rule. But I will run 160+ on a clear bahn. I do not know anybody elses limit? RISK is apart of Life & Death thats a fact. LETS JUST ERROR ON THE SIDE OF CAUTION and have fun. NON DIRECTED FACT 15 US soldiers died in Vilseck FY01 from accidents of some sort.

Roy I understand where you are coming from. WISDOM is my bet!!! So the reality check is good thing and should be appreciated.

There is only one way to avoid risk in your life. Die. You can't count on anything till it happens. If it does, you just have to go, Oh Sh1t and press on. Isn't that what racing is about. If it were completely safe and predictable, you might as well sit and watch it on TV. There is no thrill or risk involved. I took less of a risk doing what I did than most of us do in normal autobahn driving.
I didn't put anyone else at risk. It would have been different if I had blown past him at 110MPH. But what is the difference with the shoulder and the lane? It's narrower. You get just as much junk in the road.
I guess I am a bad NCO as I take risks. I better get out of the military as I am taking a risk with my life with a chance of going into combat.

I'm relaxed. It just annoys me when someone tells me I did something stupid, yet they do just as stupid things. Just it's not stupid, 'cause they did it. Then it's cool. Read the kill section. There are stories of high speed tailgateing, having to mash ont he brakes. Yet I am getting lectured on my driving. What's the word for that? I like this one at work also. Hypocracy! Practice what you preach.
I am off my soap box now. No more said.

Jesse
You are trying to rationalize what I do to what you do. It is not the same. My command is briefed on all my sanctioned events that I participate in. Is yours. what you and videotaped is plain ass reckless driving . Having fun is one thing reckless endangerment is another. I ca n remember another situation less than a year agoinvolving the club doing some quarter mile shots on a road while two members recklessy endangerd the lives of two bycyclists.
I think you and me need to talk and the sooner the better on this subject. But for now just try and think back after the heat of the moment. Hey I am not the smart guy but I have been around the block a few more times than most people, so I do know some stuff.

Wow I think everyone needs to settle down a little bit.... First off we weren't really getting all that reckless.. I think when Jessie passed we were doiong about 35mph... and although I din't know Jessie was there I still had full control over my car. Now I know what we are doing isn't the smartest... but we don't have vast industrial zones over here to race at and the closed autobahn where we race is pretty safe. We are the only people on it at that time so If were going to have an accident atleast were not harming passer by's. Were just out having a little fun.. and it's not like we do it all of the time.. maybe once every 3 weeks is what it has been and now that the nasty weather is here it will more than likely be no more until at least June. I think everyone just needs to calm down a little around here...... I appreciate the fact that there are people out there watching over us.... but it's not like were driving like total a$$holes out there either. I'm not going out there with the intent of getting into an accident or hurting anyone. I know what my cars limits are and I stay well with in them.. you can ask anyone that.... hell even Dave called me a wuss for how slow I was driving on the A-Bahn. Can't we all just get along?

Solution: Operation Street Legal. Road Race, Auto-X and drags in a controlled enviroment. Equipment needed helmet for christmas and standard vehical safety equipment. We can make this happen guys. I support OSL also because it is a good idea?
