I understand alot of you guys are US servicemen in Germany, did you buy and mod your camaros over there?
when you come back to US is there a way to get your car back?

I brought my Z over to Germany and did almost every mod while it was over there.. it costs a little more due to shipping but was worth it. Then the gov ships your car over there and back to the states for free.

I bought mine off the lot here, and I have done most of the work to it by myself, and with the help of a couple of the other members..

Roy Mair in K-town was the only dealer around that could get me what I wanted. Actually I originally ordered a 1LE but after a while of trying, he told me that it was only available through certain dealers and wasn't supposed to be sent out of the states. . I then told him about the SS that just came out , and he was able to get me one. (Actually the wife ) Turns out that only one other SS was sold through Aafes. The other was a teal SS in Hanau. Like the others stated, the military will pay to ship it back. Otherwise it will cost about $1,200. (How much a friend of mine paid to have his '65 Mustang sent to Ft. Lewis)

Roy sold me my car, too! He sold his Porsche, and now might be in the market for a Ferrari...

Some answers to your questions:
1. Army
2. Yes. Not initially, when it was time to re-enlist, I chose Germany. Been here since '94.
3. Don't just join for the $. There isn't much. However, you don't have to worry about a roof over your head, insurance, and medical.
4. Wheeled vehicle mechanic (light) Hours? Normally it's from 0630 till about 1700. Depends on what is going on at that time. Could be half of that one week and twice that another.

If you are serious about signing up, make sure you know that this IS what you want to do. Talk to the recruiters, , then come ask someone who can tell you if it's b.s. or not. Decide what you want to do and look to see which service offers it. You will be amazed at the types of "jobs" you could be doing. Remember that the recruiter will only try to sell you on what is needed at that moment.

This is before taxes and Uncle Sam likes to take $ from you. Are you married or have kids? If not, then you shouldn't have any problems with pay as you don't NEED to pay for anything other than about a couple hundred a month for misc. items. Army feeds you and houses you. Something to look into...

Well, its not real great, but considering you get to use almost all the money to play it's not bad.

If you really want to sign up... go the Air Force way...

Germany was my choice I got it first time, but I had no choice as to when I had to leave. Air Force living is a little better, and if you co the officer route.. you'll have ALOT more $$ to play with.. I'm trying to go that route at the moment... since I seem to not have enough $$.

Oh yeah I also forgot to mention.. I'm sitting in England now deployed doing nothing working about 35 min a day.. and getting paid an extra $76 a day just because there's no chow hall. It's like a really good paid vacation. Don't get me wrong though the only reason why we're sitting around is because we're waiting to go home... but it's fun for now!

HEY!!! Don't be trying to "steal" one of my future mechanics! You know he wants to join the Army as a 63B- light wheeled vehicle mechanic, so he can come over here to Gieb. OK, OK. I only have two lower enlisted mechanics working for me and they are both deployed right now. I suppose it appears that I'm desperate to get some mechs over here, huh?

Boss: Are you ASE certified mechanic?
Me:"No, not yet anyway"
Boss:"Ok, no problem, how old are you?"
Me:"17"
Boss:"Uh oh"
Boss:"I'm sorry you're not old enough for my insurance, you have to leave, I thought you were much older, here is $60 for yesterday"

It was 17 when I came in.
You can get ASE certified while in the Army. Army pays for the first 3 (per testing period), you pay $22 reg. fee. This is twice a year. I got certified in 16 areas this way. Some of the benefits of being in the Army...

The Air force pays for all the ASE testing you wanna do and if your squadron is nice they sometimes pick up the registration fee, some of the benefits of being in the Air Force.

I'd go Air Force.
I had the opportunity several years ago for the Air Force,
(yes, even as german girl, I wanted to join services but the germans did not take women yet)
but because my parents did not like the idea, I said no.
Later, I did wish I did.
Today, I don't know, I just live the live I am living.
I work as civilian for DLA since 18 years.
It is shitty, all the retired people from Air Force or Army get the
carreer jobs...
As a Local National (LN) you are nothing.
