I might be able to answer that. YES !! Thousands of them and I've got 3 of them (although I suppose that doesn't count now that I've moved 1 to Slovakia and the other 1 to Germany. I'll be moving a Z28 to Germany this Sunday too). I've a spare seat if anyone fancies a trip from Dover to Munich ?

What does it cost to import a WS6 there?

All depends what you mean by import. The shipping costs are the biggest drain on your hard earned cash when moving cars about the world. When it comes to registering the car in the UK, it's a piece of cake. You pay around £35 for the registration fee and then the cost of either 6 or 12 months road tax. I registered a Mercury Grand Marquis recently for £155 (that's with 6 months road tax). If the car is older than 10 then you need not an SVA test, just an MOT and insurance. I know a Firebird/American car friendly MOT tester in Kent if anyone evers needs one. He's not very good though, misses loads of things out of the test

Here in Germany there is a customs tax and some other tax (VAT?) that causes 29% of additional cost OVER shipping. Pretty crazy if you ask me. Does the UK require an import tax? Don't you have to change the lighting around to meet specs or is that up to the MOT dude?

First of all you do have to change the headlamps to point in the other direction, however you decide to do it. You also have to install a fog lamp on the passenger side for LHD cars (we'd call it the off-side).
As for import duty, I "think" you only pay that on cars less than 10 years old. I've never actually imported a car myself (except one from the Isle of Man), I've just bought them. If you're seriously interested you can visit the DVLA website and find all the info you need.
Try importing a car in Germany and you'd need 6 months to read all the rules and regulations and then €15,000 to change all the parts that they don't like. it wouldn't surprise me if the rubber on your windscreen wipers had to be made of a specified compound and the ashtray must measure a specified size !

It's not quite that bad ... at least not if you involve somebody that has been through all of it and has his contacts at TÜV ... apart from customs & tax, I reckon it cost me a total of something like 1500€ to get my US-spec Firehawk registered ... (not counting time, travel expenses, gray hair, nerves, ulcers, etc.)
