I swear some days I'd be better off just pushing it off a cliff. NOT!
Well I have driven the car in over a month or close to it. Only thing I've is had JC help me redo the valves and slap some poly motor mounts on. Car ran fine no problem. Changed the oil installed my ignition system but haven't hooked it up yet....waiting on a tach filter....and did some other small odds and ends stuff.
Battery was dead...a brand new optima red top at that. Charged it up and turned the key. I got the biggest backfire out the intake like you wouldn't believe. Scared the bejesus outta me. I'm like ok I've had that happen before but I've never been able to trace it. Crank it again and it fires but then it just abruptly shuts off and I get this high squeal pitch sound come from the blk. WTF?! How does a car sit for 30 days just do this? Me being the stubborn person I am crank it again and she fires but won't hold a idle which is typical for me when the pcm is dead for that period of time. Let it get to operating temp and out of no where it does that high pitch sound and cut off. Fuel psi was steady, oil pressure was steady, vac was good too. I figure it's just hasn't been driven and needs to go relearn itself w/ a nice drive no beating it on it.
Backfire out the intake. Detonation I pressume or my opti is sending a bad signal w/ timing or something. Hell I could've jumped a tooth the way that thing rocked the whole damn car but who knows. I've got one plug that looks a little white and my wires are fine. Coil pack could be goin out but it won't matter if it is and I hope that's the case because I'm throwing in my opti box for the delteq and calling it a day.
I swear these cars are so temperamental!!!!!!! I'm gonna think happy thoughs because I may have jinxed myself on the other thread.

Well John, I won't say I told you so, but you should always start it at least once a week if you're home.

Well it looks like I won't be joining you guys at least not for the ride up there. The car took a crap and is not firing right at all. Don't know if it's crossed wires because its not or bad plugs, gas, ignition control moduel or the dreaded opti but it's definetly something. I'm gonna put new plugs in and see if that helps and if that doesn't I'll just try the delteq and that don't do it it's the opti or worse. What I don't know.
I'm tired........

Well I'm hoping it's just a crossed wire but I've got that sporadic symptom before (shooting out the intake). I'd feel real stupid if it is a crossed wire but I never took more than one off at a time I believe. I'll know for sure in the morning.

Nope won't be there Gotta save my $$$$ for putting on the big brakes and doing a timing chain/gears, & water pump in the wife's truck. It's actually the timing cover gasket just needs to be replaced (leaking antifreeze) figured while I was in there I should go ahead and do the chain and pump (it has 100,000 miles on it).

I tried to put mine in the fill plug on the 9in(for now) but the studs that hold the center section to the housing are in the way and I can't get a socket or wrench on it to tighten it up. Looks like a day job of pulling the axles, center section, drilling, & welding to do it right. Ran the wires back there just need to take a day and finish it. Got the trans temp hooked up and working.......oil temp is next!!!!!! Roy and I went out and got all the stuff to fab it up, now just need to find the time to go do that too!!

You know I will be calling, I just have to figure out my timeline for getting into the craftshop. Kinda of wanted to do it the sametime as the brakes since you know what they are supposed to look like when it's done right. Found the site that you where talking about and saved it to refer back to for the fab job!!

Mounted it right where the cig lighter use to be. I thought I lost it when I swapped the carpet out and found out it was under the carpet so I just put there since I don't smoke. eh-eh.. Just got to cut a small piece of plastic to cover the manhole above the guage.
