Out of curiosity i cut some old beretta muffler apart on monday...
Can anybody tell me what that bag of charcoal (or whatever it is)
in there does? Is it an emission thing?
(It starts glowing and reduces carbon monoxides or something like that?)

I can only guess that it is some sort of dessicant to keep it dry. I would not think it is still supposed to be in there though. No other guesses.

If I am not mistaking it is there to take away from the flow a bit so it is not as loud a BMW muffler has the same my buddy cut everything out of it tough. It is like a resonator.
