I bought a BMW awhile ago and had to replace the plug wires after they were destroyed by something. They were $200 freakin dollars for 4 plug wires and 1 coil wire! They aren't even a name brand set!!!!!!!!!
I just got back from the states and guess what!?! Damn rodents got at them again. Now I gotta buy another set of $200 freakin dollar off brand plug wires. I still have yet to see the freakin buggers yet.
We pondered last night as to why they have yet to attack any of our other vehicles.
Guess what!?! They got our truck last night also!!!!!!!!!!!! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!
What the hell can we do? I am really worried about them getting to our wire harnesses. That would really suck. Everything I have read online says there really isn't anything that can be done except reduce the pest population. Hmmmm sounds good huh.

Sounds like a Marder problem. They luv the the taste of the plug wires. You can buy the Marder spray or make a solution of pepper oil and soapy water and spray the compartment and everything in there.

Hey Roy, is that (marder) the correct spelling? I have been trying to research what kind of critter it is after someone else said the same thing.

Hm ... I think some (or even most?) German car insurance cover Marder damage ...

They also sell some kind of noise maker you can put in the engine bay.

I found one of these "dried out" (dead) on the intake manifold two years ago. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture.

Well, I went to CK auto to get some new wires. I also ordered multiple electronic sensors that are placed throughout th engine compartment. When any of them are touched a nice electrical current occurs and POP goes the weasel! In the meantime I purchased some smelly stuff that the rodents apparently dislike.
They also recommended toilet bowl freshners. Like the ones that kind of hang over the rim.

I put a small bag with dog hair in the engine compartment, didn't have any problems since then. Some people also slide some kind of wooden frame with a piece of fine wire fence over it under the car, Marders don't like walking on that stuff (cuts int o their paws) and won't climb into the engine compartment... Edit: Of course you also could put some high voltage on the fence, in addition

jeejee wrote: leave your car running when parked, when they do bite the plugwires, it is only once That is exactly what I have been doing since my initial post. Now I am trying to decide if the cost of gas is more than the cost of replacing my wires..... LOL

Chevy freak, don't go buy new plug wires, they are like 3 bucks a wire at the Ramstein junkyard, and most Audi and VW plugwires will fit on BMW's, but you'll have a huge selection of BMW wires, if they dont' have them then Baumholders junkyard is the queen jewel of junkyards around these parts:)
If I was home I've got about 10 wires i would let you have, save that money for modding, and you know how to see if they are good or bad right?
