I was wondering if I should put different ratio gears in my rear end ... stock is 3.42, 4.10 would hurt top speed & economy quite a bit, so 3.73 might be a good compromise ...

Any comments?

garry on a M6 all that I have ever read leads me to believe that 3:73's are a great choice

So far I would take back my stock 3:23's in my A4... Im hurting all through the RPM band and driveablity sucks...then again it could be caus emy tranny is acting up

I got 4.11's in my 89 with a M29 T56 and I can cruise at a 100mph at 2500 RPM. It's still good around town also the only thing that is no good is I still have the TPI so I go through my power band pretty fast lol.

I have 3.50's in my '88 with a 6 speed, it accelerates pretty quick and I still get good fuel economy out of it. I wouldn't go above 3.73's, but I keep hearing about gear "whine" with that ratio.

4.56's will give you a kick......yeah, you'll lose gas mileage, but with mine I can still bury the 150 speedo!

It really is a balancing act and will depend on what you want. I had 3.23's in my 93 6spd. Truthfully, I didn't notice any increase in gas mileage, but I am dam sure it would hit between 180-190 MPH on the bahn.

I would recommend either a 3.73 or 4.10. Since you are buying gas on the local economy I would lean toward the 3.73's

3.73's in mine and quiet as all get out. She wraps up too quickly for me now and feels like Brian's 4.56's. :D 3.55's will go in when I get back stateside in 2 mos.
