Does anyone have a long plate on their Firebird? I am thinking about going this route instead of hassling with ordering the short plates from Mannheim, if they will even let me do that. The guy I talked to on the phone said they stopped doing the exception to policy for this. I would just like to know what hardware has been used to mount these plates without damaging the bumper. Thanks!

Are you sure you want to mess up the looks of your car for that?

Not sure who had that, but someone here had put some brackets underneath the front bumper on which he mounted the plate ... at least that way, it could be removed without any visible damage ... rear is large enough for standard two-line plates, but it will stick out a bit on the bottom ...

Try the SLP bracket for the 4th gen Camaro's. I used it for the '88 Firebird and I think you have enough plastic to mount it under the front bumper of your TA.

I second the SLP bracket. That is what I am using because I sure am not going to drill into my SS grill. It just mounts to the plastic below the bumper.

And this bracket will hold the long German plate? I'm running out of time so I might just have to get some spacers from somewhere and hope for the best.

It will only bolt in the center. A long plate will just overhang...won't be a problem.

If you do not mind the price, go to herforst to the Metal Shop and ask them to make one for you. It should be fairly cheap. or just price out the metal and have the Auto Hobby weld it for you. I know a guy that had a metal bumper for his jeep fabricated. At the light, turn right to go to speicher and then take the first right and go inside the door.

Hey theshadowed1, what materials does the metal shop carry by you? I cannot seem to find a metal shop around me. (Of course I don't know what type of business to look for)

Thanks shadow, I might have to do that. For right now, I just have the plastic bracket on the front, and it's bowed in quite a bit to fit. It's secure, it just looks funny. Oh well, I'm only here for two more months, then it's off to England where they have plates that will actually fit.
