hi @all

i bought a line lock from jegs (incredible fast shipping btw!) including installation kit an these metric adapters for my firebird. the installation seems to be very simple if you want to put it on the front brake lines. but i would like to put it reverse on the rear brake lines. my idea was to put the "out" fitting to the mastercylinder and the "in" fitting to the abs. so i can switch it on (with the brakepedal released) and then it blocks the brake fluid to go to the rear brakes when i press the brakepedal (to do a burnout and draw some black lines on the ground and something like that).

well, but i'm not sure if it works like that and if the mastercylinder survives it. did someone here installed the line lock in this way? would that work?

i hope you understand what i mean (i have to refresh my english a little *gg*)

greetz, natalie

Natalie,

If you install the line lock the correct way (on the front brakes), it will allow the front brakes to lock and will not lock the rear brakes. With the front brakes locked and the rear brakes released you will be able to make the black lines on the ground as you wish. That is the purpose of a line lock.

Question is, why do you want to install it "backwards" and not the way those system are designed to?

I think you misunderstood the function of the line lock ... you don't use it to prevent brake fluid pressure to a brake, but to keep up the pressure ... i.e., push the brake, press the button, release the brake - pressure to the front brake remains, while the rear is released ...

i understand the function of a line lock but i would like to control my car via brakepedal when i'm having fun not via switch. thats the reason why i want to put it reverse on the rear brake lines. when i use it on the front brakes i can't control the brakepressure. i only can lock it, do a burnout and release it. when i push the button the pressure goes away and i would have to press the brake pedal again (with less pressure) and lock it again to "drive" slowly forward with the wheels spinning. very circumstantial.
if i put it reverse on the rear brake lines i could "switch" the rearbrakes off and controll everything i do via breakpedal. do you understand? that would be much easier for me.

i hope you understand what i mean, pretty difficult to explain... :?

Please remember that if you want to do it the way you want, you will have to be able to use the 3 pedals at the same time. (Sort heel and toe)
=left footh is clutch, right footh brake AND gas
Where as you would use the linelock the normal way, you only need to try do drive away

This is where one could put their autoX / slalom experience to good use

In theory it should work , unless the solenoid needs line pressure to assist the line lock to hold the valve closed.

oh i'm so happy that you understand what i mean now :)

i found out that a friend of mine installed his line lock in that way too on his '73 camaro and it works fine! so it should also work fine on my firebird (i hope). but i think i have to plug it reverse to the brakelines: the "out"-plug must go the the mastercylinder and the "in" plug to the abs-unit because it is a nonreturn-valve i belive :?:

if it works i think it's a fantastic idea for an automatic transmissioned car. you can "switch" the rearbrakes off and play around with your car while you can precise control everything with the brakepedal.

another question:
i'm thinking about a pushbutton to activate the linelock as long as i have my finger on the button. i thought about a shifterhandle that has a pushbutton. do you know if there are things like this for 4th gen f-bodies?

There is no aftermarket shifter handles for the automatic cars that have switches on them. Your line lock should have come with a push button switch that has an elastic band on it. You can remove your shifter handle and slide the switch on the shifter and then re-install the handle.

ok i thought that there is no shifterhandle like this for automatic cars but i wasn't sure.

i orderd my linelock without the electric accessories because i don't know where i should put this cord with the push button. i will buy my own switch, fuse and so on.

well i have to think about the activation switch and where i can place it. i'll let you know if everthing works but first i'm waiting for warmer weather outside to install the line lock

for everybody who wants to put a line lock on the rearbrake to play around:

today i finished the installation. i put the line lock on the rearbrakes and connected it the other way round. so IN is now OUT and OUT is IN. i raised my car at the rear axle to check if it works correctly and it does! i switch the line lock on and no more brake fluid goes to the rearbrakes, so the wheels spin free although i step on the brakepedal. very great! i have to do a test burnout soon :D

the only "bad" thing is, that the brakesystem warninglight comes up when the line lock is enganged. but as soon as it is disengaged it goes away. i don't mind because i could never forget to switch it off then when the warninglight is on :)

For safety's sake....please provide a way to disable it while actually moving. I would hate to hear that you accidentally activated it and lost your rear brakes while going down the autobahn.

Maybe an inline lockable switch (w/key)?
