Post subject:  Updated Website ...

Been thinking about revamping the FBE site a bit ... the CMS is a bit outdated (probably has a couple security issues), the forum is giving me trouble while putting in patches, etc ... things I was thinking about:

    * putting in a decent online chat
    * adding a F-Body Technical Wiki
    * maybe a webmail package for free FBE-mailaddresses

Open for suggestions :)

Just don't upgrade to a forum that doesn't have AND, OR, NOT available for search.

just don't change it so the name shows up as "forums.-------.com" that will block it from USAF networks and we can't post at work

No, not going to change the DNS, and no, not really interested in changing the forum software either, as I think having ~5 years of FBE history available is kinda cool :)

One thing I just decided on was supplying the Wiki with a seperate domain ... no point in putting a general F-Body Info & Help page unterneath the FBE domain ... I will post the address once it is active (which may be up as early as tonight)
I'll try to get some people (like the guy Ben Franker links to for technical) to maybe move tech info to the Wiki ...

if we could change the forum layout to be similar to that of mightymustangs.net

fix the problem when typing in a message or thread when you dont type in a subject and hit send, it just boots you back without notification.

chat will be useless, not many people on at the same time to even make a good use of it. Or, am I wrong?

maybe some better, updated news on the front page. and keep it current. Like when MM.net invited us out to the meeting, make it on the front page! I didnt even know about it till I saw it today and first on mm.net.

the email would be nice if it is not blocked my .mil

OK, wiki will be located at http://fbodyknowledge.org ... need to work on some graphics and menus etc., but the basic wiki is up and running ... might take another couple hours for the name servers to pick it up though ..

One problem I have noticed with this software is that if you take your time writing a reply, it will send your message somewhere into cyberspace when you hit the "submit" button. Everything you've written is lost.

Here's a link to some of the templates that can be used as a base for the updated CMS ... any suggestions what general layout might be a good pick?
Please note - this is mainly about the general layout, colors and details of the layout will be modified ...

I had the same problem (when I had the time to write about Einstein and Black Holes )
and I found for longer replies it is safer to write in word and paste for that reason.
Of course I did not always know in the beginning of how long my reply would be - same when I was about to answer and the phone rang.

But I do understand you, it is really frustrating when you write and maybe research in between to be accurate and when you hit "submit" the work of maybe an hour is gone...

Not sure why that happens, I start to write something, leave the computer for hours, return, finish the post and submit it, and it still posts fine ... Maybe it's in the browser ... I'll check the timeout again nonetheless ...

Don't know either.
Just after looking at the crap for 2 days I decided to send a SMS under water and wake up Garry out of the octopussy arms and he did his job as great as always and fixed the problem.

Thank you Garry.
