Post subject:  Bilstein HD
I´m looking for some new shocks for my camaro. I think, konis are to expensive for me. So i think, bilstein HD are the best for me.

Did some of you sell some?

When i´m ordering in the USA, than i must pay tax and "zoll". Do you have an idea, that i don´t must pay this?

I don´t need the shocks urgent. It is fast enough, when i have them next year february.

Jens why do you want to buy them from the states.

The Bilsteins are sold over here through every authorized Bilstein shop, in fact their all built over here and then exported.
I bought mine over here ,infact I bought three sets over here. For me it was cheaper way cheaper , than buying from the states.

Get me the exact model you want and I can check with a friend who works at a car part wholesale place ... dunno if it's (much) cheaper, but asking won't hurt ...

Hey Ben what is that tuning shop in Wiesbaden by the park. I'm thinking Collieurs or something like that.

I still have a set of used Bilstein HDs with 60.000kms on them, i used them with Eibach Springs which was way too hard for my taste (no dampening, just bouncing of the road :roll: - i should have got them revalved...). :lol:
I got them from Bilstein directly.

Do you plan to use lowering springs or stock springs?

As long as you gonna use lowering springs you should consider about having the front shocks revalved to match the compression ratio of your springs.

Jens and LS1,
If your using the shocks on other than stock springs Its the rebound that is most critical to get revalved. You will have to add about a extra 85 Euro for that.
Might as well purchase Koni SA shocks for that price . The SA are adjustable on the rebound side.

Some people swear by them Jens, but other people, who have the money for more expensive shocks, will tell you that they're cheap and crappy. I don't know first-hand, so I'm not gonna say they're good or bad. :)

thanks for the info. I'm running my bilsteins on stock springs and am absolutely happy with my car height and how it handles. However since I've the bilsteins on the car it seems to be a little bit lowered. You know I have the SLP SFC's on the car and if I want to jack up the car, the jack arms wouldn't go under the car unless somebody helps to pull up the car at the fenders (wheel well). So I will not imagine how it would be if I had used lowering springs :)

If I were you I would not go with the KYB's. It is for sure an improvement over the oem de carbon shocks but if you are going to buy shocks just spend a little more if you can afford it and buy the Koni's SA for the front (as roy already mentioned) and Bilsteins HD for the rears.

i´d just spoken with Bilstein Germany. I´d told him, that i need shocks for a camaro with eibach pro kit springs.

He said, the shocks will be make shorter???

He probably meant you should shorten the damper shaft to compensate the lowering (so the shock is still fully extended even with the shorter springs).
Not sure if that works...

Actually its to recenter the piston in the tube , so that the piston wil not bottom out in the shock tube at full compression.

down side is that you really have to compress the spring to get the shock nut on. Really not much of a problem.
