your right, at the moment the commodore with bmw m5 engine is allso out of the running, postmortum of the engine reveiled the reason why oil cunsumption was so high. the engineblock might not be salvageable(?)
(i'll try to post some pictures soon)

this might cancel my plans for the m5 turbo engine although most of the work is finished :bash:

3.5 or 3.8? I have to go to the junk yard this weekend and I can have a look. I got a 1993 Suzuki Vitara for $350 so I could strip it and get the frame. All it needs is a clutch. I need it for the frame and I am junking the rest. Sure beats 3000 euros for a new one.

yes but the m5 engine before the 3.8 was a 3.6.
the 3.5 is even older.. and mostly a 12valve vs a 24valve M power engine..

There is a complete 3.8 M5 down here in the scrapyard. I think the old guy wants a 1000 euro for it cause it needs shocks. I haven't seen it my self yet so don't know if it is true.

It is a 3.8 M5. Car needs shocks and a heater core. Car looks good , engine is immaculate.
guy wants 1500E or 2000 USD for it.

this is the reason my engine used a lot of oil
these 3.8's have many problem areas compared to the 3.6
this is the 5th

it is being bored and honed right now to see if the bores will clean up at the max overbore possible (with allready special pistons etc etc)

but i did some calculations , and i think i might be able to use my 3.6 turbo pistons with a 3.8 crank and rods.
that would give me just 50cc less displacement then a true 3.8 but would be aprox 1500-2000 euro's cheaper beause i could use parts that i allready have

i might have to have the rods small end offset about 0.5mm to prevent pistons sticking out too much above deck because compressionheight is slightly higher on a 3.6 piston :pat:

but that too is doable and would prop not be too expensive ...
