Once in awhile, my 99 trans am's clutch gets a bit funny.

Normally, (as we all know) you push the clutch all the way in to start the motor.

Once in awhile, it will not start with the clutch all the way in. I back off or reposition the clutch pedal and it fires up immediately.

At first I thought it was an electrical problem, but whenever this happens I just simply re position the clutch lever and it imediately fires right up.

They say this might be due to the clutch position sensor being dirty or something, but they are not sure...

I have had this "quirk" for the past two years and I have driven the car from Austria to Western Norway and now at Ft. Polk and have never been stranded.

The local GM dealer took the car for a day and did various tests on it and felt that I should not worry about it....

Does anyone else have knowledge of this?

I did try to break it.

The result, I have a complete new clutch that is barely four months old...

Well, the GM mechanics basically gave me no cause for alarm

and it does work,

so maybe I should just leave it alone.

I would worry about it when you can't drive it anymore. :)

Amen to that one. I just put a new clutch in mine just over a week ago, then a few days ago the slave cylinder died.. pissed me off, if only because I JUST had the tranny out of the car for the clutch job...lol

Dude, I was just trying to get some ideas on it.

Anyway, it is not even an issue anymore.

The clutch works flawlessly, it is just that it will not always start with the clutch pushed in all the way.

I back it out a little, and it starts up every time.

Nothing has changed, nothing has gotten worse.

I have no problems with it anymore.

As a matter of fact, I like it better this way, and if I can help it, any other cars I get, I will see about having my own "clutch settings" tailored for me.
