Is an ls2 engine basically the same engine as a ls6 (6.0?)

And is a ls1 the 5.7 liter version of the ls2 / ls6 ?

Is the power underrated as i once read the 320Hp version (ls1?) had aprox. 320 At the wheels..

Is this correct : ls1 = 320HP
Ls2/ ls6 = 400HP

Thanks.

Joeri

The LS1 and the LS6 are roughly the same. Different heads and such are changed.

The LS2 is different. It has 6.0L displacment. Where as the LS1/LS6 have 5.7L.

LS1-320ish HP
LS6-385HP
LS2-400HP

the LS6 was revised for the 02 Z06s to make 405hp, but with the extra in2 the LS2 makes more power on the lower end with a milder cam

mid 01+ LS1s use the LS6 block, intake manifold, exhaust, and a lot of other components that were developed for the Z. Essentially the LS6 is just a head&cam package for the LS1 engine

okay, tell me where I'm wrong

when the C5 Z06 came out in 2001 with the LS6 engine, GM didn't want to continue to make 2 seprate engine blocks for both cars so they stopped making LS1 blocks and once the supply was exhausted they starting using the LS6 blocks to build LS1 engines. Same goes for the intake and exhast manifold. The only major difference between the LS1 and LS6 cars starting some time in the mid 2001 model year was the Head and cam put into the engine.

Intake you are correct. Some very few LS6 engines blocks are in 02 camaros/firebirds. The LS1 block is stronger LS6 is better for road racing. Now I bet the 04 GTO has more LS6 blocks installed than the 02 camaro. 05 LS2 vette 05 GTO are the same.

So why is the 04 GTO LS1 rated at 350HP and is basically an LS6 block except for the H/C?

GTO has it's own cam. It was designed by Holden to meet their needs.

LS1 Z28/TA - 305hp
LS1 WS6/SS - 320
LS1 97-01 Vette - 345
LS1 02-04 Vette - 350

all with minor changes to tweak the engine for more power. Plus you've got to remember Chevy politics. Can't have a car that is more powerful than the vette and they had the 405hp Z06 in 04 so they could bump up the power to match the base Corvette engine.
