I've been working on the car for the last couple of days. Well yesterday John and myself took off the passanger side head and low and behold we found a couple of things. One of the pushrods to the # 8 cylinder was bent into a boomerang. The # 8 piston fails to move all together so i'm thinking that one of my connecting rods is tearing up the inside of my block. I wish I had an engine puller so I could pull the rest of the block out. I can say the heads are not bad but they look like they need a valve job so I need to call the friendly people at comp cams. Other than that the car is looking more hopeful so maybe it'll run soon.

Appreciate the help Silas and how was that movie.

A broken connecting rod usually means a junk block. I looked in summit complete rebuild for LT1 with forged pistons $550 it was minus the crank though.

glad to hear that it doesnt look to bad.

That would be a small record. I cant remember hearing a con rod failing in a LT1 before. Its just a shame that all the bigger expensive parts like to hang out with those things.

Maybe you are brave enough to jack the front end high enough to take the motor out the bottom. People say it takes all of a couple of hours.

Hope things fall into place soon.

Rob

I've heard that taking the motor out the bottom is easier also. I wish I had high enough jack stands to do it. I'm probably going to take it over to our local craft shop and pull the Junk Block out and then tow it back with the new block. Either way the heads and cam should be ok and It'll give me a good chance to do some spring cleaning in those hard to reach spots. I know that when I said good news your all probably looking at me like I'm on crack but with daves block I should be up and running in no time. As the weather gets nicer the urge gets stronger and I'm hoping it'll stay nice to provide me the motivation. I'm still going to change out the heads to the Stage 2 LT4's as soon as I order them and they arrive but If I can be up and running with the LT1's I'll do it for the time being.

P.s. does anybody know where to get the LT4 hotcam kit, 1.6 rokers, double duty timing chain, pretty much the one that comes with everything for $400.00 and some odd dollars. Any info would be appreciated.

Rob your the man: I know it was a pain in the AZZ to torque those heads while the motor was in the car. I didn't realize there was that many head bolts till the other day. I just went out and bought a 1/2 inch digi torque through craftsman with a 3/8 adapter. It's a nice wrench but getting it in there is a whole new problem. I'm going to try putting them on while the motors out. I heard you can put the motor in with both heads and one header on. I'm not sure how true that is but i'll find out. Later.

*grin*, I told you there were 16 bolts per head, and at 3 passes per head that is 96 differant bolts!!!!!!!!!

I heard the same thing about putting it in with heads and passenger header, guess you'll prove it :)

about the hot cam kit, I would seriously recommend just buying the cam and chain from thunder, then getting some pro magnum rockers. It will cost you alittle more, but I really think those rockers are the best. Some people have been getting 10hp just from the rockers!!!!!!! You can reuse your lifters, and the heads will come assembled (without the two drain plugs that you must have).

G'luck
Rob
