My AUTO tranny has 30,000 miles on it and I would like to prolong its life but keep in mind that I like to take the car thru its paces once in a while at the track. what can I do to take good care of it. fluid choice or tranny cooler. Trying to save some money in the long run.. No problems right now but would like to prevent them. Experts out there I would really appreciate your suggestions

I cannot reiterate enough on a tranny cooler tranny temp guage and annual changing of tranny fluid. You gotta keep an eye on the tranny temps when performance driving .

I agree. I have rebuilt to many trannies due to over heating. Your best preventative maintenance is a tranny cooler.

does anyone know of an easy to install cooling system for the tranny that I (an idiot with mechanics) can install easily. What is the recommended system for this type of tranny? 1995 LT1

After looking at the coolers, I have a ? about which one to get. They are listed by GVW. Does this matter alot? I figure that a 28K GVW will cool better than a 15K, so my ? is, would the larger cooler, cool the tranny oil too much? I mean, I know my Camaro don't weigh no 15K anyway, but I don't how much it will cool it.

It is all in how you plumb it in . Run the lines to the aux cooler than to the radiator where it will bring it back close to coolant temp.

IT'S NOT SMALL, IT'S THIN! No really, the tranny coolers come in differant sizes. Something about gross vehicle weight... the 15K GVWs are like 11x2 3/4x3/4 and the 28K GVWs are wider and thicker. There are 15K, 16K, 20K, 25K, & 28K, those are just the ones on Summit. I was just wondering if it would be a bad thing if you get one and it keeps the tranny too cool.

So size does matter... should I go with the really small one, or a medium size one? Sorry for all the ?s, but I just don't want to cause more prollem with the wrong one.
