Hi,
I'm seriously considering to swap the engine from my 85 camaro, it's now running whith the stock 305, i've been thinking about a 350TPI, but i've heard that people put LT1's in 3rd gens, does anyone know where you could buy conversionkits or do i made them myselve, also i want to know if i need another tranny and rearend??
Howmuch costs a good LT1 in Germany?? because in holland there not much junkyards whith that kind of new engines.
Have some suggestions or some advice please le me know.
Greets,
Tom Brochard

The LT1/LT4 shortblock is no differant than the ones from 50 years ago. It already has the holes drilled in it that match to your motor mounts.
As far as trannies, minor mods needed depending on your flavor of drivetrain.
Search out the 3rd gen sites and find more info than you can shake a stick at.

Hey Rob thanks for the info, so you say that the 700r4 tranny fit on a LT1, i have heard from some other people that you need a new tranny too.
Not that i put your advice in a corner as you know what i mean, i'm just curious (spelling??) about the possibility's and changes that i have to make.

what im saying is it is a very popular swap for 3rd gens. If the tranny fits or not with or without a differant bellhousing/driveshaft is for somebody with "speriance"
The LT1 will drop right in, but search the 3rd gen sites for the tips/tricks.

If you are running a 700R4 behind your 305 it will fit the LT1 with no modifications. As SRZ was saying, the block is the same as it was 50 years ago with the exception of the fuel pump mount cast into the block but you won't need it anyway. The drive shaft and rear end will not need to be changed. Good luck on the swap.
