Does any one know how to bypass the VATS in a 88 GTA? I was told that painless sells a bypass wiring kit, but I can not find it any wheres on their site. I have broken the VATS wire in the column again for the third time. Really getting tired of pulling the steering wheel off to get to it. Can any one help me?

Hi

The easy way to bypass the VATS is to check the resistor on you key, and find out what "size" it is.

After that you go to your local eletronic shop and buy a resistor that matches the on on your key (+/- 10% ).
You then connect this resistor to the thin yellow wires that are under the steering coulmn. You can cut the wires and solder it on, or you can connect it to the connecter where the wires go up to the key.

The VATS system now thinks that you always have the right key in the ignition and the car will start.

If you have any questions feel free to mail me !

Thanks dude. I appreciate the help. I keep repairing the broke wire in the column. Do you know of any place here in Germany to get something like that? There are no radio shacks here.

The resistor is called a widerstand in German. You can get them at most electronik stores in Germany. There is a local one I use all the time here in Wiesbaden.

Thanks Roy for the info. I'm here in the little town of Speicher. I know that there isn't any stores like that here. There might be on in Bitburg. If not I will be calling on some help.
