The readings you got are with in tolerance IAW GM's service manual. The lowest reading should not be less than 70 percent of the highest reading, and no cylinder read less than 100psi. Now this is for factory engines in passenger cars. I tend to use the 85% rule. Which means 110 psi would be the min for cyl number 7.

On cylinder 7, Was the compression low on the first stroke and then built in successive strokes? If so it could be rings( need to check with a couple squirts of oil in the cylinder for verification).

Or was it low on the first stroke and does not build on following strokes and the addition of oil does not help? If so could be a valve.

Sure would like to know what number 5 cyl was doing. That would help in ruling out some stuff.

You may have a 350 after all. That compression is pretty low for a mid-80s 305. They usually had 59cc combustion chambers. Did you do your compression check with the throttle wide open on the carb? #7 looks weak but that could be from your rocker arms too tight on the heads. Could be a sticking valve or bad rings. Re adjust you rocker arms and see if it raises the compression. I had the same problem on my 350 and I readjusted all the valves and it made a huge difference.

The cyls successively went up with each turn of the motor.I turned the motor over 5 times then checked it. I did that 3 times for each cyl. and took the avg number. the numbers were very close each time. I had the throttle wide open when i checked them.
I have to find some sort of tool to be able to get to that sparkplug. I tried using a wrench with the socket but i cant get the socket on.

Have you tried the 3/8 drive 15mm thinwall 12 point socket?

Take the rubber grommet out of you spark plug socket. It is in there to grip the plug. When you take it out it may give you enough clearance to get it on the plug. Just be careful not to snap the head of the plug off when you start to take it out.
