Could it be that it's just a Euro-Version just like they built of the 4th gen? With modifications to cover for german/european requirements? The mirrors in the pics look funny ... apart from that, have you compared the performance/technical features? Have you found any differences compared to the standard US model?

Garry,
Yes I have found some differences compared to the standard US model. All of the 1982 camaro Z28-Es where painted silver metallic with charcoal rocker and front air dam accents. the taillights where different from the us version, theres no spoiler, they come standard with clear headlight covers, the gauges where different and I think it had a little more horse power from the US model because of some of the equipment we have to have that the over seas model does not have to have.

Roy,
Thanks for this link I have never seen a Z28-E that color wow that is cool thanks! Do you have any more links like that?

i also have this magazine article i bought off ebay and scaned it to my computer some one else hosted the pictures heres the Z28-E magazine test drive http://users.rcn.com/cdartz/Z28E/

I have seen the Z28-E in several colors whether they were factory or not I donot know. But I do know the IROC version was also in that mix. In my time here in Germany (since 1985) The 3rd Gen was the leading imported vehicle besides the Corvette. Back in 1987 a IROC Convertible would go for about 65,000 DM (roughly 35,000 USD) Opel -GM Show floors were selling them like hot cakes. Another good link to goto is
Bandit-online
Fbody Netherlands
Ihave a Swiss one also but it seems to be down. Plus a Polish Fbody page if youwant the torture of learning .

Don't let the language barrier keep youback there is plenty of members on their respective boards that speak multiple languages.

Z28E was a GM approach to market the Camaro ineurope next to the 944 Porsche and other 80 ´s sport cars!
I owned 3 of them an the std color was lt grey with decals on both doors!

spec taillite/ license Plate option for the longer german plates
GY tires
3.23 gears
GT style clear headlite covers
