Theres a guy at the auto crafts shop here that has a 350 from a '90 Caprice police intercepter. The guy took it out to throw in a big block. Supposedly has 50k on it, also has the R4 trans with an afermarket converter, but I couldnt tell what brand, just that it was bright red. Was thinking about getting the motor and building it up; ironically there was an article in CHP on getting power out of your 3rdgen and noticed that they mention the Caprice 350's from 88-93? had simmilar specs to our TPI, like hydraulic lifters, etc. He wants $500 for the complete motor, but I dont need the heads, intake, and all that which will be replaced with aftermarket. Hopfully he will come down since he hasent had an offer for almost a year. Id leave the trans alone, since the Caprice had a colomn shifter, and dont know about the conveter, since I dont know what the stall is. Im thinkin if he will come down Ill jump on it, but Im still gonna keep my eyes open. What do you think? I ran the VIN and it was from a '90 Caprice 350...
-Probably wont be able to check back for another week-

Yea, Greg the Caprice engine would be a direct swap!! Even the accessory brackets are the same. (serpintine belt set up) You would just have to swap over your TPI. You dont want the TBI that came with it. Keep your SLP cam and put that in it too. Yes, all 87 and up SBC have roller cams and one peice rear mains. Let me know what your plans are once you get the engine. Even 500 is still a good price for everything, you never know when you'll need that back up tranny. ;)
