Anybody headin' for the States for a short trip? Could use a good tech manual on 79 Camaros ...

Speaking of which, where do I have to look on the engine to find out what year/size/type/whatever the engine is? We didn't do anything with the car yet, but planing stage is approaching quickly ... :)

Get a Helms manual, it's the actual shop manual...Look on e-bay, you can usually find them for 25-50 bucks.

There's a Haynes (got one for my 98) in there currently for $3, lots of Chiltons, but at least right now no Helms ... or original GM manuals ... oh well ... keep on looking I guess ...

Garry, the block number is on the back top part of the block on the driver's side. You may have to clean any grease or dirt to be able to see the number. Go to http://www.nastyz28.com to find out what size/year/type of block it is.

I have all 3 of the manuals you guys are talking about, and as far as 4th gens are concerned he is my take on it.

Haynes = very good, use it alot

Chilton = not very well done, only use it to triple check something, or get a differant picture angle on something

Helms = the absolute must have. It is 2 volumes and covers everything you will every need to know. If you have to get a manual get this one. 100 bucks is steep for a book, but so is a single trip to a dealer. Its not hard getting access to someone with a scan tool, and with the helms, you have every bit of info the dealer would have.
