There was a Camaro at the Fulda meeting, V6, 2.8L; the guy said the car wouldn't go any faster than approx. 80mph, 2500 revs in 5th gear ... well, I know from my car that cars without Z-rated tires are governed, but 80 seems a bit extreme ... !? Any ideas?

What? That sounds crazy. I would think that would be a major problem. Maybe the sensor on the trany is ******. Isn't that how the gov works, RPMs and your fastest gear? But I'll race him, then I can get some kills with my 3.4l.
Killing another Camaro wouldn't be right though.

The governer on the 3.4 works off of the transmission. If you unplug the speed sensor from the transmission you will have no top speed limit(Z rated tires) and your speedo will not work. As far as the older 6's I would imagine that low governer since I believe Greg was saying his stock was like 105, and that was a V8....

I found an optioncode at firebirdv6.com which had 85mph governor written by it ... weird ... poor fellow ... sure hope he can get a chip for his car to get rid of that (oh well, I guess he can still go for a kill with a Smart ... though the top speed will be pretty close - the Smart might be able to beat him if he tries long enough )

Quote: Just how fast do you think a 2.8lL liter v6 goes in a 3400Lb Camaro? BTW Garry what year was it.
Phew - somewhere in the 80's ... but come on, 2500 revs in 5th gear - a Smart can beat him on the highway ... you could beat him while still staying in first gear ... (well, almost)

The speed limiters can be a pain in the ass at times and Roy and myself have experienced the 108 mph limiter in my 3.4 more than once, it was almost scary.
Thank goodness that i'm the owner of the EXTREMELY rare Hypertech power programmer for the 94/95 3.4 Fbodies that deletes the topspeed limiter besides adding the power program and turning on the fan sooner.
The VSS (vehicle Speed Sensor) removal trick works indeed as the signal from the transmission isn't send to the PCM and therefore the limiter doesn't kick in as it actually is a rev limiter above a certain speed. Without the VSS signal the PCM gets NO speed reading so it has no clue about the actual speed so it will not limit it either.
But like George said, you will lose the speedometer reading PLUS this trick does NOT work on electronic automatics (4L60E) which needs a speed signal in order to shift gear ...
My Hypertech Programmer WILL be for sale next spring when the LT-1 fills up my engine bay

Garry... Did it say how many of these cars were made? It might be a collector.
Sergio... How much are you selling the Programmer for? I think I will need one, if I can wait till spring.

Hey what year is the Lt1 your throwing in your car. If it's a 94-95 I have a Hypertec for sale for that year computer. Just wondering if you would want it. I'm getting ready to embark on a whole new era (new engine) I really don't need it now and I'm selling it pretty cheap if your interested.

Guerard,
Thank you for thinking of me.
I'm not too sure if i'll be needing a programmer as i was planning to have the computer custom reprogrammed in order to take full advantage of the Lt4 cam and some other mods, HOWEVER these are just plans and are ONLY done if the budget permits it, so if i tend to run short on cash i might have to let some mods go and i could use the programmer.
At this point i can't tell you what i'm gonna do exactly.
P.s. It will be a 94
Thanks,

I'll probably have it for a while. I'm not really putting to much effort into selling it. If you do decide in the near future drop me a line. later
