Does anybody have a scanner to check a 98 V6's engine codes? Or do I need to go to the local Opel dealer (yuck!)???
I was driving home from Luckau tonight, and with about 80mi to go, the yellow engine light came on - according to the manual, it warns about problems with fuel, ignition or exhaust sensors - or that you didn't put the fuel cap on right ... well, I stopped and checked the cap (I had filled up some 20min & 30mi earlier), but it was on right - the car feels fine, didn't have any problems with acceleration, or any unusual noises or anything --- when I got home and unloaded the car, it started fine afterwards, too, but the light is still on ... any idea?

I have an auto X-ray. If you want to use it just let me know and we can make arrangements. You have to be flexable because I do not know what my job will do day after day. Anyway, we can try to make a date to down load your codes, don't take it to a dealer. Call me at my handy 01701841879 ask for Rodney or work 0656561-7141 ask for SSgt Landry.

Tnx, I'll see whether I'm in the area some time soon ... dunno when exactly, or maybe for Bitburg?

Disconnect your battery and leave it off for about 10 minutes. This works with my car most of the time when the SES light comes on. If the car feels fine then the computer could have had a hick-up. I have used this method with sucess on my 95 Z28. It may save you the cost of getting it scanned which runs $60 at AAFES so I can image it would be more expensive on the economy.

That's the other thing I was going to do ... didn't feel like messin' around much last night - just happy that I made it home

I know that this isn't the cause of your problem but, when I used to fill up at AAFES (super or super plus), my light always came on. It went off halfway through my 2nd tank of ESSO gas.
Additives can also set off the light.
If you disconnect the battery, you won't know what set off the light in the first place when you run the scan test. Chances are that there is nothing wrong, OBD II is just too sensitive at times...

Well, I filled up at the same place I filled up some 300+mi and 3 days prior, so unless they got some sh@tty gas in between, that should not be the reason. Hopefully.

If you disconnect the battery and it fixes the problem then it was not a serious problem. If it comes back on then I would get it scanned and read the codes.

Battery's disconnected, will take a look tomorrow or so, maybe it's even nice weather to finally clean the car after Bitburg & Luckau

Hooked up the battery again today and ran the motor a couple minutes, SES light stayed off ... guess I'll see if it's just a hickup next time I take a ride ...
