I have a 97 Z28 with original Radio/Tape player and 12 CD box in the trunk. I've seen newer Z28 with Euro spec radios, the differences are RDS, more detailed display and last but not least, it's able to tune to FM stations with 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 as the last digit.
1. Will one of these fit, both physically and wirings, in my car? Will it be able to control the 12 CD box?
2. Does anyone have one, for sale
3. Where can I buy one, any audiodealers specialsing in this, any junkyards with lot's of bent 4th gen cars

I'm just curious why would you want a factory GM head unit? You can go with a scoche wiring harness and double din kit. Then you could replace you head unit with a aftermarket Head unit that will give you alot better sound quality and whatever graphics you like. JVC makes a sweet MP3 player I put in mine last year. 110 songs on one cd. It just depends what you you want. I deffinatly wouldnt waste money on a factory GM head unit it just is not worth the money. You dont really get any more from it than what you already have.

Where? What's the price tag? I was thinking of replacing the factory R/C unit, but our local car hifi store - which is pretty well stocked - didn't even have the double din mounting frame to fit the 'maro ... much less the wiring adapter ...

A double din kit really fits in there? Great
At the moment I only got a conversion kit to single DIN with adapter. (about 20EUR + 15EUR at KTS...)

I would like to keep an original look, but most important not tempt thieves.
But I know a lot of you guys use aftermarket radios, that's why I figured that there would be plenty of the original euro spec units out there collecting dust.

I guess that's what Jaz is talking about ... 2x DIN is higher than what the double size US slot has ... I think I've seen half-height amps out there so that you can take a DIN R/C/CD and the amp and put them in the space left by the US spec radio ...

I can get the kit you need we have them stocked in my shop in Bitburg. We also deal with a european dealer so I will check to see if it's the same size. Rob Johnson is the guy running the shop now so you would have to work with him to get it. I will get you his e-mail if you want.

Can you get a quote on both the DIN-US-harness adapter and the frame adapter?
