I will install a dual battery system in my 1985 T/A. I will anchor a steel battery box in the rear trunk compartment(left side if facing the rear of the car.) I have a dual battery system from painless performance. I have questions about routing the postive battery cable under the carpet from the firewall to the compartment. I will shield the cable. Any suggestions on the best route to take( for instance firewall near the doors to the compartment) and what kind of shielding to use :?: :|

When you say that you want to shield the cable, what are you intending on protecting the cable from? Are you talking about electrical interference or physical insulation wear?

Here's how I did the relocation in my '88.
http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/elect ... stall.html

Here's what I did for my battery relocation to the trunk. I used a 1/0 ga. cable from Taylor that runs from the battery to the starter, I then kept the stock cable from the starter to the electrical junction. For the battery recharge I used a 6 ga. cable that runs under the radiator and wraps around to the starter, then it runs parallel to the battery cable (I initially had a 10ga. cable, but it was a weak charge). The battery cable also has a 200 amp Bussman fuse mounted close to the battery, just in case of an accident.

Here are both cables running behind the passenger wheel, into the passenger compartment. There was already an opening next to the passengers right foot filled with foam, so these cables were easy to run through the body. The cables then run under the carpet, next to the passenger seat, and over the wheel well to the battery.

Here's the battery, cables and fuse:

The Bussman fuse (AMG-200) and holder (HMEG), both purchased from National Fleet Parts:

Overall, not a hard install, it just takes some time.

Thanks for the info. I will only run a 1.0 g positive line from painless dual battery system, that I will mount on the firewall, to the rear compartment. I like your Bussman fuse and holder because it gives add insurance and safety.

No problem.

FYI, I updated where I got the fuse and holder, it's actually National Fleet Parts. http://www.nationalfleetparts.com/
