I am really getting sick of this I have developed yet another misfire in the car and now I have to go through again to find it.... this is such a pain in the a$$.... If it is the wire I think it is (#6) then I have no clue what else I can do ( I put 2 LAYERS of heat resistant cloth material on it) and I think it is still burning through!!! I have to be out in Manhiem on Sat so any suggestions to get the car fixed would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

Dude, what's the condition of that plug? if you have a plug that's breaking down then the wire can arc out real easy. Just a thought, I know nothing about the past problems you eluded to.

If you're sure heat is your problem, Summit sells some high temp insulation sheilds for wires that look like they would keep'em pretty cool.

if you havent, just route 'em over the valvecovers. Haven't burnt a plug wire since I did it. About 2 years and 2 header installs ago.

Chickenkiller: The plugs are stock.... they were doing just fine until my header install.... and I have TAYLOR made boots (found at summit) that are supposed to do the same deal... but have not so far.... I just have to find out which cyl is misfireing now....

Rob... I would like to do that (route over the valve covers) but due to lack of cash at the moment it isn't really an option... thanks for the info though.. that will be a future mod!

If you want when I replace mine you can save yourself some cash and have mine for no charge since I'm bummin a ride w/ you. One loom is melted though but still usable. You'll see it for yourself when we go down there. Maybe my looms will be in before Sat and that way I can give em to you then. Aight w/ you?

I'd really appreciate it there John! Will they work with the stock length wires?

Hell no! However if you want my old Taylors which are new just a little damage you can have those too. No need in selling them since they're frayed. NO ARCING FROM THE WIRES or misfires despite their look. You'll see when we get their and judge for yourself. It'll be a wk or so before I could get you the wires unless we knock it out up @ Tony's Sat. Just something to tie you over until you can get replacement's if need be.

It's no sweat I help when I can....

I had the same problems, seems everytime I pix a wire another one burns. That heat insulated wrap or shield didnt work wither. I bought accel extreme 9000 plug wires for like $70 and I have no more problems.

Sounds like a plan John..... I went to the junkyard today and found a car with all kinds of inslatation on it (heat type) so I'll see what the heck I can do with these! Hey does anyone know if the #5 wire is the same length as the # 6??

I wonder if getting some coated headers would reduce the heat enough? HTS ? Ceramic? How about that header wrap?

That sucks that you've had recurring problems like that dude. Replacing wires and plugs is a real a$$ pain on that sucker. Maybe you should consider getting a DOHC engine to drop in there?? :-fruit:

oh nooooo we don't speak of such things!!! The only reason I haven't gotten some headers yet is the daunting 8-9 (probably 12-13) hours to install.

Yo Silas, the Url code won't work man. I tried all three ways and no go.

Well for all of those not sick of my saga yet here comes another round! I took out the 3^ wire and to my amazement (being sarcastic now)I found that it was burned once again! Well I then proceeded to work some magic ( about 2 hours of it) to make my #7 wire fit where my #6 was.... and for all of those who know 7 is about 3 inches longer than 6.... I then proceeded to cover that MO-FO with about 4 layers of insulation.... inclueing a solid tube type to keep the wire even farther from the header... if this bastard burns now I'll shoot the car and claim the insurance!! Hopefully all will go well now!

It just so happens that I have installed a set of MAC longtubes on one of those 4.6's. It wasnt too bad, but it wasnt easy. If you decide to get some and need a hand, let me know.
