I should know by next week if the motor is coming out. I'm pulling off the headers for a leakdown. Gonna find out once and for all if I have some issues with rings. I need to get off my ass anyway and put the cage and front shocks/springs on anyway.

I've been checking around and found a machine shop that seems like it will work with me. They do mostly circle track motors, but hp is hp as far as I know.

I was so tempted yesterday when a guy followed me into a parking lot and offered to buy the damn thing. If I see him again, 15K and its good riddence.

If I still have this bastard I should soon leave the slow crowd and join all you fast guys with my soon to be lumpy-lumpy cammed 355/383.

If I told you what the machine work is gonna cost I would make alot of people cry. Sometimes it is nice to be in the states ;).

So how much is the machine work? I'll be doing the same thing in about 7 yrs. Re-doing the rings and dropping the compression alot so I can go boosted. Single turbo.

Went out to the garage today.

I swear sweetie I'm only gonna clean up the engine alittle

I really was only gonna clean up under the hood :)

anyway, I havent researched in awhile, so I was wondering if the CC306 is still the big stick, or was there a new cam introduced I need to know about.

The rest of the build is gonna be pretty mundane. Hydra Rev kit, .030 over forged pistons with the best rings on the market, and some new lifters (my cranes are not compatible with the hydra-rev), a windage tray and possibly a better oil pump/pan. Then of course the program, but I'm gonna try the email thing with must-go-faster (life time updates over the computer, how cool). All and all this should come in around a grand. Now I just need to source the $$$. Any comments/suggestions welcome.

At it again? I feel for you man. As far as cams, my personal opinion... The 306 is a good cam and makes alot of power but, do you want to be just another one with the 306? Have you looked into the GTP 6? Its 306ish but will make more power and is streetable. Maybe a custom grind? You have the heads/hardware, so you can pretty much throw anything in there you want.

What kind of slugs you throwing in here?

Looks like I'm leaning towards SRP flat tops. Should end up with 10.3-10.8 CR. If after checking the crank it will probably only be polished, but if needs replaced, it will be all Lunati, but keep the stock rods.

I dont see why they wouldnt work. This is from there catalog:

Description Part Number
Small Block Chevy* w/factory lifters 6155

Small Block Chevy* w/Seal Power or Speed Pro style lifters 6150**

Chevy* Sm. Blk. w/factory lifters & twisted wedge heads 6156

Chevy* Sm. Blk. w/twisted wedge heads & Seal Power or Speed Pro style lifters 6151**

V6 Chevy* w/factory lifters 6157

V6 Chevy* w/Seal Power or Speed Pro style lifters 6152**

Hydra-Rev Kit Installation Tool 6158

* Except the cast iron LT1 Impala,Vortec truck heads, ProAction Iron Lightning or Dart Iron Eagle.
**Will not fit Crane or Lunati Lifters

all right around $240, and they claim some wild hp gains from 6200 up. Perfect for the LS1.

Turbo?
If it weren't for the fact that you still had 7 years to plan your journey into the realm of forced induction the nonchalance of this "turbo" post would scare me a little. It is more difficult than replacing pistons and rings. For mild boost you may not even need to do that!

Bruce they did make it for LS1's but they tanked it. So if you do find a set they'll be expensive. You should't break a 918 spring unless the spring is defunct.

The joys of having a LT1. eh-eh..........:)
