Well ... work on the 79 finally seems to be progressing ... after I seem to have all the parts together, the motor will hopefully be running again for the first time on Friday ... put all the cables back on today, radiator is back on the car (what german brand coolant will be right for it?), transmission oil lines are on, need to build a support strut for the battery pan, and a new place to put the radiator overflow bottle ...
Also, test-fitted the glas fiber parts ... looking good ... ;)

Hey, forget about the strut for the battery and put it in the trunk where it belongs!!! Then WaLa you'll have a nice place for that overflow bottle.

I know - doing that over the winter ... also will be getting rid of the regular fuel tank, putting in a fuel cell instead ... just getting the car ready for Bitburg ...

well ... decided to get the cable and stuff and put the battery in the back right away ... anyway, after loading for two days, it only put out 8.5V ... :(
Used another battery for a test ... electric fan (from Robin I think - tnx again!) works fine, and after turning for some 30+ sec, fuel finally made it to the carburator ...

Ladies and gentleman, the '79 is rumbling again!

Great sound, especially without the muffler ... ;)

OK! Glad to hear about the progress. Does this mean that you'll start posting some of those "I'm goin' to fry me up some chicken in Bitburg" comments you keep making ;)???

Garry, let me know if your looking for any parts. The guy that tore his aprt to rebuild sold it. He got tired or something, working every night on it. He had stripped 2 other cars for parts.

Hm, does he have a blower? ;) Nah, at the moment I think the only piece I still miss are the gaskets between headers and muffler ... have to check if I can find some that fit at a german place ...

Sorry it took me so long to answer - must have missed your question ...
Answer - the whole set I have (nose, fenders, quarter panels, ground effects) is supposed to be a GM fibre set ... pretty much identical to the original pieces and fitting quite well ... don't know whether you can get just the front fascia, it would fit the regular fenders, though ... also, no tellin' where you could get the pieces, I got them from a guy up in northern Germany, he also made the hood for me ... don't think he has a mold, otherwise he could probably build the nose for you ... I have his phone# somewhere, if you're interested ...

Well, here's the Address ... this up close to Bremen IIRC ...
US-Parts VANDRACECK
Hauptstraße 29
26209 Kirchhatten
Tel.04482-928171

As to prices - getting the parts here in Germany, the price was pretty much OK I recon ... the whole set (GM supposedly - the grey parts on the pics) ran 1250,-, he made the hood himself and only charged another 250,- for that (probably already made enough money on the rest) --- the fibre parts I've seen in catalogs from the states were quite a bit more expensive, especially if you calculate shipping to Germany ... (remember, this set has: nose, both fenders, ground effects and rear quarter panels). Probably be getting the door panels plus the piece underneath the rear window - plus possibly the rear bumper ...

Well, being in Germany, you just have to take what you get ... only other option a couple months prior to finding these parts was an early 2nd gen style flip front, which IMO looked worse ... but then, the kit I have will probably look pretty mean by the time it's painted ... probably can fit some 400+ tires in the rear without them sticking out of the quarter panels ... and without shortening the axle!
