Decided to clean up the car a bit today ... had the driver seat all the way to the front to clean the back ... after finishing, I tried to move it back, no go ... checked the fuse and almost burned my fingers ... pulled it out, ignition is off, tried replacing it with the power window fuse, got sparcs at the contacts ... I checked underneath the seat, even disconnected the plugs underneath both driver and passenger seat --- still sparcs, remember, even without the ignition on (nor accessory setting, either) -- I don't know how come the stupid fuse even has power going to it without the key in, normally the seats wouldn't operate w/o key turned ... !?

Anybody have an idea? Removing the seat isn't really that tempting ...

Is it possible that a wire got damaged when you moved the seat all of the way up? One of the wires could have constant power going to it even if the switch is off. At least you found it now and not later. It would suck having to drive back from the car wash with the seat all of the way up. Hopefully nothing bad happened and it will be just a quick fix.

Tried to locate anything that could have been short-circuited ... as far as I could see, there shouldn't be anything ... as mentioned, I disconnected both seats' connectors ...

a) judging how hot that stupid 30A fuse got (two of 'em in the box, and the only ones in a metal housing!), I can be glad I noticed it, otherwise it could have caused a major problem --- still wondering how come it didn't burn through - car still started fine, too ...
b) the seat is all the way up ... I managed to pull it back into the garage, hoping to be able to get back in and pull it back out ;) - I already dread driving the car to the dealership in case I need to get it fixed there ... and that's only a 5 minute drive ...

If you have to take it to a dealer to get it fixed find someone short to drive for you. :)

My power seats operate always regardless of the key turned or not...

well, had a couple minutes to take another look at the car ... measured the +12V and GND points going to the seat - and measured no resistance ... there is a short SOMEWHERE in the power seat/rear defog circuit, though I still haven't been able to locate it ... anyway, got a 2 lead cable, connected it to the seat power/gnd, and at least was able to get the seat back to where it belongs ... at least I'm able to drive the car again, and take care of it sometime when I get to it ...

Stupid question - how much trouble is it to take out the seats? I recon I might need to do that in order to be able to find the stupid short I have ...

Hm ... sounds OK ... guess that's the best thing to do, a lot easier than trying to get everything underneath the seat or around ...
