Can anyone tell me how to service drum brakes?

I mean, how do I know the drum brake "pads" are gone WITHOUT opening the drums... are there any noises or other signs? And how long do they last in general?

Thanks! :)

Ben

I don't think you can really know for sure except by opening it ... anyway, at least on the '79, it wasn't much of a problem... I recon you're talking about your R5, not the Camaro ;)

If you hear some bad noises or the park brake is not woring as good as it used to is good signs of drumbrakes in the back that need replaced or adjusted.

Thanks :) ... and yes, Garry, I was talking about the R5, my Camaro has rear disc brakes like your 98 V6.
