After extensive research in my boosted application and the pcv system it dawned on me as to why the old engine let go the way it did. For one the catch can I used (AMW) didn't feature a breather but that really didn't matter as I installed it wrong! I had the line coming off the passenger valve cover to the catch can and the 2nd line from the catch can to the TB! So any time under load I had mega pressure crankcase and no where to go thus blowing the dipstick tube and killing the rings. Catch can was supposed to be inline w/ the pcv valve and not the valve cover. DOH!
Costly mistake. LOL! Well I learned my lesson that's for sure. I never really understood the whole pcv thing but I've learned since then.
I'm not even chancing it w/ this setup. Procharger recommends a breather on the VC ( I'm running 3
) and caping off the PCV line altogether but that would require welding the pcv port shut and that is not happening. The other end of the pcv line is capped off w/ a vac plug but the actual pcv line off the intake now is going to a vented catch can due to all that pressure under boost.
Just thought I'd share that a 200 dollar part and lack of knowledge caused an 11K disaster.
