Got the damn thing out. What I learned I should have bought arp studs instead of arp bolts.

Dang! I don't want to know how you managed to break those. Make sure you got all the crap off the threads in the block.

78 I think it's been a while. What the deal was since I didn’t have ARP assembly lube I was supposed to torque them higher so this time I will have the lube. I would have used it the first time but I didn’t know about it until I got the bolts in. The instructions said I could use motor oil but I had to torque them higher. The smallest one was 28 but that one was my fault I dont know about the other two. The longest one broke when I was taking it apart.

Did you put the lube on the threads or just around the head of the bolt where it meets the cylinder head. If you put it on the threads, it may have compressed in the block and caused the failure. The lube is supposed to be around the head of the bolt. I hope you did not crack the block. BTW, those are ARP head bolts. I have never seen any of them break before.

The instruction said to put lub on the threads and on the washer. So maybe I wont put it on the threads this time.

If you clean the threads in the block good, you can screw the bolts all the way in by hand. I have never put any on the threads with no problems. If you use motor oil, I believe the torque is 75 lbft. That is what I used for mine.

If everything goes well it should be on the road next weekend, but I have said that before.

Studs are ok to put in the block dry, but you need to use the ARP lube on the nut threads! I'm not sure if the head bolt holes go into any water jackets on the LS1, if they do, you need to teflon seal those threads first. Hurry up and get that stink pile up and running so you can humble that SRT-8!
