Hi folks,
I found a red Z28 (99 built) in the internet, but red is actually NOT my prefered color. Why? Because look at red cars that are older than 5 years (especially Golf2, Fiesta, Mazda 323 etc)! The color fades away and they look aweful!
I would like a metallic paint but this red Z28 is a very good offer, because it has manual gear change which you rarely find and some other goodies that make the car special (Geiger lowering springs, special wheels).
What are you doing to keep your red Camaros so good looking?
What type of paint is it? Water based or oil based paint?
European manufacturers for environmental reasons are using water based paint only (no thinner).
Jack and Garry, please help!
BTW I have problems to understand your GI slang!
What is "close to POS" and IMO?
Gunnar

To keep the paint looking good, all you have to do is keep it clean. My car spent the first 6 years of its life outside (ranging from Oklahoma sun, to German snow/rain), and just recently got a garage, but it was washed weekly and detailed monthly.
I would say my red car looks the same as the day I went to Darmstadt to pick it up.

One difference I think is the use of clear coat ... not sure if german manufacturers go through the trouble of putting clear coat on ...
I can't say anything about my car's first three years, but would say it has been probably always been in a garage. It has since I've had it.
Anyway, I'm using Zaino as a polish, which has a pretty high UV protection ... I think somewhere around "40" ... I'm not really a red fan (probably couldn't tell by looking at my cars ), I'd rather have a nice li'le black T/A, but none the less pretty satisfied with my Convertible's look ... hope it stays that way ...

I agree with Rob, take care of it and it will last and look good for a long time.

Yeah, just wash it and wax it at least weekly, but every other day, weather permitting.. At first, I didn't really like the red, but it has since grown on me!!
POS- piece of "He said POOP"
IMO- in my opinion
LMAO- laughing my ass off
ROFLMAO- rolling on the floor laughing my ass off

the cars are only built in one place. They(meaning GM) are notorious for the front end fiasco on all 93-97 Fbodies. GM is not known for having paint that ages well. Keep it clean, and it will look good for a long time.
I still get asked if my car is new. Okay, they're dumb people, but, its because my car "looks" new.

Thanx folks,
I think I will go for the red one!
Lets stop the discussion here (unless we missed something really important), before this chapter will be another never ending story.
Cheers!

Last word
Use colorcote 2000 (I thought it is TV "He said POOP", but it works)
It did wonders on my old MB 190. Especially if the paint is already a little dull. Warning: Do NOT leave car in full sun after immediate use. Leaves spots. Learned it the ghard way.

My '87 Z28 had terrific paint...but it was black. Off point huh? Is this pink face Barney the Dinosaur? If so, can we have a BJ and Baby Bop face too?
