I'm not looking forward to getting my car inspected. Will they fail me for having a cutout? Even if the cutout is closed off with a plate?

And can they tell the difference between a resonator and a cat. converter?

Sup Silas! Good though, buuuuuuttttt thats what I've got. No dice there unless utilized with a bag and 1/2 of steel wool and a cone.

Absolutely! There apparently is not anyone fighting against whoever is making the regs. I think they just accept whatever is thrown at them and go with it.

Get in there man! Make a difference and make it better for everyone!

Agreed entirely. Apparently, Mustang GT's and Neon SRT8's are already at 95 dB right off the showroom floor. That is why they changed the reg from 74 dB!

I was going to say "If they find it.....it will fail :( ". However, I cannot seem to find it in the reg anymore. Maybe they forgot that part :ok:

ralliartist wrote:

That does not matter at all. Both are acceptable. I have neither :) Of course I don't even have a motor right now. Thats beside the point.

well i was looking in to it today and you have to be a 7 level to do that "He said POOP". but as of know we have no fill in for the German holidays so depending on who they train to work over there you could get hooked up....we got a lot of people that think the regs are complete BS but we also got a few people that drink the AF cool-aid and are WAY to by the books....but ill be pulling every string i can since my car cant even pass!

I'll be damned. It did not say it in previous editions, but the new Reg does say that even the manufacture installed systems must be below 95 db. This is freakin' rediculous. Here is the exerpt:

All exhaust systems (manufacturer installed, or after-market) of motorcycles and automobiles will be inspected for noise levels according to the procedures in paragraph C-25. Motor vehicles exceeding the noise level of 95 decibels will be rejected.

According to the American, Speech-Language-Hearing Association:

100 dB = snowmobile, chain saw, pneumatic drill
90 dB = lawnmower, shop tools, truck traffic, subway

Mind you the 95 dB is at 1/2 your redline.

Johnny, FYI. Here is the limits for height. Are you really below this?

c. Minimum body ground clearance must not be less than 8 centimeters (3.15") for flexible body parts such as ground-effect spoilers or air dams and 11 centimeters (4.33") for hard parts such as exhaust, frame components, and suspension.

Hey guys, I've been out all week.

Yes, I knew about the 11cm, that's the part that failed me. I have BMRs Extreme torque arm and that has a low mounting cross-member, plus it dips below the exhaust pipe. I think my headers might be below 11cm as well, but they didn't measure that the first time (the fail comment didn't specify what they measured). Anybody have a set of stock coils?

The new exhaust rule is absolute BS, I didn't realize they were applying it to stock exhausts. Everybody is on orders to be here, if a car passes US regulations then it shouldn't be any different here. I'm seriously considering filing an IG complaint on that one.

I wished somebody would do something about this crap....soon we won't even be allowed to drive our cars. They'll come up with more crap/rules/reasons to fail us or to keep us from driving them.

I have also contemplated the same thing. I think it is the only route to go.

So can anyone confirm the cutout? My cutout has a plate and I use a new gasket everytime I close it. I only open it for track visits (or if I'm randomly bored, lol) so can anyone confirm that a cutout would fail the inspection???? I'd like to know before I get there that way I can get it replaced if I have to.

it will fail. I know a guy who had cutouts on his car before and even though they were sealed, they failed him

I believe the reg lists cut-outs as illegal.

Can anyone list how these compare to the TUV inspections? I think it would be best to argue how our requirements shouldn't be worse than local regulations. Do vehicle manufacturers have a height requirement?

Concerning dB/noise limits:
No limit that is measured on a vehicle which is not moving. There is a limit but it has to be measured on MOVING vehicles.

Concerning the cut-outs:
We can have street-legal exhaust systems with exhaust valves which control the noise. So I'd assume cut-outs, when closed at the relevant speeds (see above: noise limits) are legal...?

Concerning the ground clearance:
"...and 11 centimeters (4.33") for hard parts such as exhaust..."
I know where they got this from: VdTÜV 751 Appendix II, Paragraph 5.1.9 basically says this. BUT this is a recommendation for the TÜV inspector, not a strict rule or law.

Where can we find the rules for the TUV? Are they online somewhere......maybe in English(yeah right).

In regards to the cutout. The reg used to say that you cannot have one, but I cannot find it. I can tell you that I made it through with my e-cutout, but it is hidden pretty well. They may not have seen it.

Here's at least one link:

http://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/bunde ... gesamt.pdf

Didn't check how current it is ...

StVZO is the key word ... "Straßenverkehrszulassungsordnung" ...

I agree that requirements shouldn't be stricter than either US or German regulations ... so, worst case, apply the stricter regulation of the two ...
